auto to manual

i got a pontiac g5 as a present from my dad. I am very happy to say it destroys the civic i previously had in torque and drivability.

but he decided to get me an automatic tranny in it. I was wondering if anybody had information to the parts need to modify the car from an automatic to a manual.

I know the transmission and clutch, and things such as an additional pedal and the shifter. but i need to know if i need new harness or things of that sort.

please let me know what it would take to do this project.

thanks

1) Drive to dealer

2) Trade in car for one with a standard transmission

3) Lose a lot of money

4) But not as much as if you were to do this conversion

5) Enjoy your new manual tranny car

....seriously.

I agree. Older cars were no problem because they were all mechanical. Now the computer has way too much to do with everything in the newer cars. Especially the new Cobalts/G5's. I assume You'll be in to replacing the ecu and half the harness too just to make it work. Not to mention how much of a pain it's going to be to find the parts used and how expensive it will be to buy the parts new. If you can find a smashed up donor car that's exactly the same except for trannies and you have enough knowledge/time to tackle this job yourself then I say go for it. Otherwise just deal with auto or as everyone else said... TRADE IT IN.

even the older cars to do the conversion was like 3k or somethin like that, so i cant imagine what it would be for the new cars

I can't believe you are getting rid of a gift from your dad because of the transmission... That's low.

Good luck with the trade. The above posters are right, the conversion would cost an absolute fortune.

There is only one car ever i would do an auto to manual swap, and that is a Subaru SVX, that is only because I love the car and it was never made in a manual.

Be happy with it and drive it for a few years. Save up and get a nice car with a manual. Save all that money you will lose on conversion or trade.

Manuals are fun, but I don't think it is imperative you have one in a g5...

Honestly the cheapest out of all of these is to have Trifecta get you a transmission tune.

Wow ..... If my father bought me a car as a present .....I wouldn't trade it and lose 25% of the value just to get a standard . Damn......why not just go into dads bank account.....take out 5000 dollars .......then burn it right in front of his face?? Cause thats basically what your going to do to him.
