my power steering randomly doesn't work. a quick fix is turning the engine off and restarting it. it happens after being on for a little, and it also happened after being on for a while. it's happened three times so far. just wondering if anyone knows whats up. i get an error message that just says 'power steering'. brand new '08 cobalt.

 

I've heard this problem before, it's something in you steering colum, it should come up in a search. But you're an 08 so you should still have the factory warranty, take it back and have your dealer check it out.

 

I agree, it should be under warranty.

A little insight. I had the same problem; the power steering would die and the warning would appear on the dash. It started happening more and more often. I replaced the electric power assist motor (a 10-minute job) and it was 100% fixed.

Just mentioning it for those out if warranty.

 

Get it in there and every time something is wrong with the car before the warrenty is up

 

yeah i think i have it narrowed down to that.
