Muffler delete info

I see alot of people on here running the cheap old age method of a muffler delete, does this really do anything on our cars tune or no tune? I know the skittles came factory with no muffler so i am leaning towards the answer of yes but i am not sure...

Obviously the gutted/catless downpipe/testpipe will add gains thats a given but any proof, dyno/track times to show a gain of chopping of the muffler?

Also would that automatically void my powertrain warranty? Its not something you can just throw back on like a factory ecu or intake... They will notice the new welds

thanks in advance...

I talked to my dealer and they said no warranty issues will arise as long as I stayed cat-back, so I chopped it, lol, I gained about 2-3 mpg after, but I would ask at the dealer first to go on the safe side

yeah md, just a tad rumblier/ louder than stock but not much, you can't really notice it once it settles down to normal rpm idling

You gained 2-3 MPG from chopping the muffler? The stock muffler isnt very restrictive , thats why the exhaust note doesn't change a whole lot when you remove it .

Most of the muffling is done by the Cat's .... When i went to a catless downpipe the exhaust note really changed a lot . You could tell it opened up a big restriction in the exhaust.

Our muffler doesn't do much of anything, quiets exhaust note a little. Shouln't be any gains on MD alone.

my coworker cut his muffler off and it sounds really good when he drives it, just not when it's idling IMO

Or in a Dyno. Car sounds pretty good when you open her up. But no change at an idle except on start up, then it quiets down once it's warm enough.

dealer cant say anything about removal of our muffler. We have no baffles in it. If you peeled away the muffler you would find a pipe inside, thats it. We basically have an insulated pipe.

catless dp and MD is a different story. as soon as I went catless I put the muffler back on. still sounds like a single propeller airplane on cold start ups
