wheel stud recall
how would you go about getting a recall started on the lugs? my drivers front wheel ******* fell off this morning and i know im not the only person this has happened to. the tire shop will be paying for these since they just balanced all four just a few days ago.
I'd be willing to bet they didn't tighten it down to 100 ft-lbs like you're supposed to. You're not going to get a recall on a tire shop's error, lugs don't typically just "fall off" if they're properly tightened

i was driving 70 mph and it started making a growling sound then a vibration then a bunch of clunks i pulled over and there was one lug with a really loose nut holding the wheel on... needless to say it trashed my wheel and all the studs...
i have high doubts that your problem is related to GM.
sounds to me that either they didn't properly torque your lugs OR they used power tools to put the lugs on and ruined your studs, causing the lugs to loosen themselves. who knows.
but i do know it's not GM's fault.

the tire shop wouldnt take the blame so that cost me 118 that i couldnt afford...
should i talk to a lawyer about a lawsuit? for damages done and damages that could have occured? i had my 5 month pregnant fiance in the car with me when it happened

Regardless of what action you take on this, can I suggest when you have the money you pick up a torque wrench so you can double-check your lugs whenever someone else has taken off your wheels? Better to double check than simply trust the work was done correctly, but best of luck getting reimbursed on this, it's clearly their fault.
Thats bull, I work on tires all day everyday. It sounds to me like they just took and tightened the lug nuts with the impact gun and socket instead of impact gun and torque stick. Thats how I do all mine followed up by torque wrench to ensure there tightened right. How did you end up putting out almost 120 though? Was it to replace the rim because wheel studs are only like $1.20 each and easy to replace. Maybe they trained a new kid on your car, and they definately did not double check there work. What tire shop was it? And if it was a larger company, I would look into finding the district managers or even general managers name and number and going straight to them instead of a store manager.

he said 1.5 hours labor since they had to take it all apart. the wheel is trashed so im out on that but the total just for 4 lugs and 2 lug nuts was 118.**

Hey my front wheel fell off too!!!!
Luckily I was doing 15mph at the time. The garage that put my wheels on lost my OEM studs and put aftermarkets on instead - guess what, they didn't fit properly and one wheel fell off with the others loosened.
Now I'm trying to find a new set of 20 OEM studs for less than $120. Not sure what condition my brakes, control arms or anything else are in but it bent all the bodykit when the wheel fell off and it hit the deck.
Good luck with taking the garage to court, mine is saying that I have no proof that they changed out the wheel nuts and that it's nothing to do with them...

I believe we have aluminum rims. With Alloy Rims, the lug nuts must be retorqued after driving the vehical a few miles, 20 or so. My brother learned this the hard way in his S10 on the freeway when his wheel came off. He got luck and was unhurt.

Invest in a torque wrench. I always loosen and retorque the lugs after taking it anywhere. Also, it is essential to check the torque after the mentioned mileage.
If you swap your wheels yourself for winter/summer sets, use a impact wrench (The cheapo 12V ones work fine) to remove the lugs and then the torque wrench (Or use a torque stick if you have one) to tighten. I learned this one the hard way whenever I busted one of mine off due to the excessive lateral movement of my breaker bar when trying to remove my winter wheels.

Not sure about the garage you went to but on the bottom of all our receipts it says "Please check your wheel nuts after 60kms." Covers our ass if a wheel falls off a customers car. And no, we've never had that problem.
