gm upgraded clutch..... do i need to?
Ok so I am looking around for a new clutch... I noticed a lot of people happy wth the gm upgraded clutch... and its only like 230ish! Anyways I just want to no if I need to (or if I should) get a new flywheel wth it? My car has 60k miles. Its a 2006 cobalt ss sc
I am not sure if you can get it resurfaced and be within specification... This would make the factor to replace it or resurface it. Dont use it as is, you need to at least resurface it...
I have the GM upgraded clutch on an 06 SS/SC...it will work with the stock flywheel....just take it to a machine shop and have it resurfed....no need to buy a new one.....unless ya REALLY want to...lol.....and you will love the clutch....just in case...did a small thread on it...heres the link

The flywheel, even if you have abused the heck out of the clutch, still lives, as its a problem with the pressure plate. In 99% of all the stock clutches I have taken out the friction disc is still half assed ok, considering the clutch slips, and the flywheel is fine . Take some 380 or so grit and just roughen up the flywheel surface. Install new clutch and be happy.
The GMPP kit comes with a new TOB and is very good value indeed. If you have nothing more than stock or GM stage 2 mods, this clutch is really all you need. If you go to the drag strip, well thats a completely different story.
It should be noted that the SS/SC is a SAC setup, while the SS/TC is a NON SAC setup, so a SPEC 3+ in an SS/TC with a resurfaced stock flywheel should be fine if you want to go that route.
Just throwing that out there for the SS/TC people that may see this.
Update: After a quick search I found that Aaron@TTR agrees (http://www.skyroadster.com/forums/f2...tml#post466257).

Yes agreed. Over on the Delta platform (Cobalt 2.0L LNF) the best clutch has been the SPEC Stage 3+ NON SAC setup. GM moved to a NON SAC setup in the cobalt when it switched from being the supercharged, to the turbo charged engine...
