Alpine type R vs. Other subwoofers
Alpine type R vs. Other subwoofers
I need help with an audio set up. I am not happy with my new subwoofer selection but maybe its not the sub. Maybe its the stock speakers or the headunit?
what i have currently:
Head Unit: pioneer AVIC D3
Subwoofer: Pioneer TSW3002-D2 SPL 3,500, 12 inch in a sealed box
Amp: Phoenix Gold mono class d V8001 1,600 WATT
I have plans to upgrade the stock speakers with some mid grade speakers. Im not going to go component because i just dont really feel like doing that. I have an Alpine mono amp class d as well but its not hooked up. I had a memphis running threw the alpine that had great mid range but it had nooooo bottom end. However it hit hard enough for me but i just wanted something deeper. Now i have the low end with the pioneer sub however i have no middle or high end. Im pretty new to the audio scene, but.... would it be unorthodox to run both sub setups?
Or is the pioneer over rated? should i have went with the type r or maybe a jL audio? I just want a nice system that hits solid and has a good range. I listen to every type of music not just rap or hip hop.

It is never a good idea to run a mix of subs like that. Eg... mixing 10's + 12's ect.ect... What I would do is just remove the stocker sub since its a pos anyhow. Easy to do, just remove the 4 - 10mm bolts and unplug the sub. Easy enough to re-install later if need be. Also, if you have the stock tweeter pods above the door panel I would highly recommend running 6.5" Seperates in the front end and run 6.5" coaxles in the rear with adapter plates. I personally wouldnt run 6x9's in the back(size of the stockers) due to the fact that it is an oval speaker and anybody in the industry is aware that you dont get very good sound quality out of ovals, rather round speakers are where the best sound q comes from. Anyhow, thats my two cents on what you are asking.

I have one Audiobahn AW1206T in a Wal-Mart box with an Audiobahn A8000T amp. it sounds decent, but i need a bigger box for it. I used to have two in a ported box hooked up to two separate amps and you could hear me coming from a while away. Oh yea and I have an Alpine h/u.
Right now I have an Audiobahn AW1206T sub in a box from WalMart being pushed by an Audiobahn A8000T mono amp, all hooked up to an alpine head unit and stock speakers in the rear and in the doors. I need a bigger ported box though cuz the one I have doesn't do the sub justice. I used to have two of them in a huge ported box hooked up to two of those amps (The amps are rated at 800w RMS, so I had around 3200W of power in my trunk) hooked up to an old Alpine head unit with alpine components all around and my friends could hear me comin from a while away with the bass and sub levels turned ALLL the way down. (i rarely turned it up because it was so loud) I wish i still had them to put in the cobalt.

I have 2 12" type R's and really like them. IMO apline is the cleanest bass I have heard, if that's what your looking for. Mind you I have only heard apline, kicker, pioneer, and clarion. they are fairly cheap and very loud. If your just getting into the subwoofer game I would say apline is my fav.

Gotta tell you I jumped on the Alpine type R after my experience with kicker subs (and now amp) left me with a bitter taste and I'm not going back. It's worlds above the Comp VR I love it plus Amazon is selling it for $100 and change with free shipping.
i bought a 12" type r in january with a alpine 500w RMS amp, and love it.. has enough power to rattle everything, but yet still sounds amazing. i got the AVH-4200DVD pioneer deck as well.
