GM Stage Kit: Before and After… with videos!

I had the calibration done yesterday (Fri Nov13 )and did roughly 100km’s till now. Everything went smooth, the Tech was helpful and understanding…in and out in under a hour. Even test-drove the new Camaro while I was waiting.

Now onto the good stuff...
In town drivability is very much the same as stock (wife loves that btw)…
2nd hits pretty hard when boost kicks in, noticeable more tq steer and the extra lag is going to take some time to get used to. Although it is actually less than I expected it is still a little more than I would have liked… autocrossers will know what I mean.
3rd gear is VERY impressive to say the least, smooth power with no real surprises, again that dreadful lag, but nothing too serious…

To get an idea of how she will perform in the “real world”, I decided to do 100 – 200 Km/h runs. This way I am in 3rd and 4th were I spent most of the time on Mosport… and for me that is were it all counts!

For the record I did 4 runs before and 4 runs after on the same straight under the same conditions plus I ran them both ways to get a fair average.

In the end she went almost 2 seconds faster after we calculated all the numbers!

1 clip of each to give you guys an idea.

Ah, you are the famed owner of a white SS sedan that's been beating up on them Subies at track events in Ontario. Good job. I will have to come and watch you do your thing on the track/solo next summer?

Nice to get some feedback, Riaan! I doubt I'll be getting the kit for a while in my car, but maybe I'll get to see what yours can do next season at an Auto-X or track event

Once I figure out the new powerband, this ting is going to be a MONSTER on the track

I do not know about famed, but yea... I've been beating on a few STI's this year
Looking forward to see more of you guys out next year.

Sure, lets see how mine works first. I think it is going to be a hand full in autocross for someone like yourself looking to get into it. Stock is way more userfriendy...

I had a feeling that would be the case... My thought was to maybe just get the Trifecta select-a-tune... That way I can Auto-X and track the car on the factory tune, then have the 22psi kick in the ass when I want it on the street.

Vid times:

Stock Run: 100-200kmh = 17secs.
GMS1 Run: 100-200kmh = 15secs.

Not TOO bad, I was expecting a lil bit better tho honestly.

The power delivery on GMS1 comes on really smooth unlike some of the aftermarket tunes that hits you hard and will probably FEEL faster. To impress your friends on the street, aftermarket is the way to go.
On a track the GMS1 is going to be more than enough if you want to go fast and keep things stable for longer providing you keep her in the powerband. I have yet to dyno mine, but I can assure it pulls a LOT harder between 3000 and 5000rpms, there must be at least a 60 – 80 tq jump at the wheels IMHO

Yes I understand, but if you keep in mind that a 2sec gain for me on Mosport is the same as someone gaining a sec at the strip.
Also notice that she pulled harder past 190km/h (after I short shifted in to 5th)

In this Mosport vid you will see where I could potentially gain around 2-3 sec

Curious, did you get this installed at MacMaster, or did you do the install yourself and have them flash it for you? I'm still nervous about my harness being spliced...

You know you are not given them STi owners any chances next year with your added power?
Awsome driving btw..

Who did you deal with at Macmaster doing your reflash? I may make the road trip to have them install minds when the time comes. My dealer want to charge me $980 + install. CED all the way.
I could do the install myself like you did and have the dealer do the reflash, but I don't want to give GM excuses for voiding my warranty doing so. Pay a little more and keep my warranty in good standing.

That's some impressive driving

I think your being modest with the 2-3 second gains, I think all the extra torque from the stage kit would help quite a bit more on some of those straights

Look at the vids and compare the times. 2 seconds gained 100-200kmh.

hate my tune, about to go more aggressive... BUT the superchips pulls MUCH harder than that... I don't think you would like it though because it's definitely not as "smooth" as stock, so for autocrossing, its probably not the best solution

here is mine with the Superchips tune/downpipe:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHU8NDFShCE

my 40-110mph is about 1:21 into the video

1st pull is 35 w/ no brake boost a LITTLE under our powerband, 2nd pull hit the rev limiter(lol)... 3rd a 40-110 and 4th another 40-100

you can definatly notice teh delayed jump in the needle for the slight more lag like you said, but ya its around 2 seconds faster.

Figures a custom tuner would be taking a run at the gm stage kit tune....
Less business for you

We see the 2 sec difference ... thats fairly substantial when applied to a road course like calabogie up here. For under a grand installed with warranty its well worth it until it expires.

Nice! Your car seems to pull pretty hard.

But it is hard to compare with the 2nd - 3rd upshift in there. Unfortunately I took my car off the road for the winter so I can't do a 40 - 110 right now.

....you stored it over the winter? If I get the kit installed short term (it's sitting in the box in my room) and the weather doesn't completely turn for the worse I could try to find an open area for the 40-110 for comparison. Problem is I get caught doing that, my car will be making a Christmas visit to the impound yard .

I can live with the "speedo mod" but the dam "boost gauge mod" sucks... lol

Holy crap, I thought all the tracks would be closed being December? If we get that storm we're supposed to the cars are going to need to be equipped with studded snows with chains .
