Yea I would love to see a Cruze that has some of the blood from the WTCC concept in it. I thought I even read something of a possible Volt SS? That could be cool, but ONLY if they follow what that article says.
i actually love that my sedan also came as an appearance package in older models.. i'm all about sleeper status.. and it has worked many times already.
..but i do agree that GM just threw an SS on anything to try to get it to sell..

Could be considered confusing the way they did it with the Cobalt as stated in the article. However, if I'm dropping more than $50 on anything, I'm doing a lot of research on what I'm buying. If I'm dropping several thousand on a car, I'm going to know about every bolt in that car before I buy it. With a little research, it's easy to know exactly what you're getting when it comes to the different SS trims.
its not so much people confused about what they were buying, but others lookin on it. People could easily scoff off a N/A SS as ALL SS's and ya it might hurt their image, but it hurts sales more too because that someone looking for something like a T/C or lsj wont know about it.
I mean the SS name is kinda a big deal in chevy, they wasted it on a few in the past.

What ever happened to the RS moniker. That would have been very well suited to the 2.4 SS.
LOL 265HP Small mistake but damn he's the Vice President of Global Engineering. With that big of a title, know your ****.

Or maybe they are underrating them 5hp like gm is known to do, and he slipped up. =P
Yeah, I personally found it odd that they didn't do a better method of separating the two versions sooner. Prior to the "Sport" name, the only way they really would separate the two models would be to attach the "Supercharged" plate to the SS Badge and use a slightly different body kit.
The only thing the 1SS did was provide bad press for the 2SS. And give every ricer honda fanboi a way to brag that they destroyed a Cobalt SS/SC when it was only the SS/NA. That said, I'd love to see a Honduh try to take my 1SS now...
Have you seen the SS/TC dyno charts? 265 bhp isn't too far fetched...

That, in a nutshell, is the reason 96% of the people on this forum dislike the 2.4SS or feel it was mis-named. Not that its breaking some sort of "tradition", but that it hurts the street cred of the 2.0 car.
Yep. I didn't realize it until AFTER I S/C'd my 2.4, but the difference in power and speed between the two is FAR MORE than anyone could ever imagine without experiencing the car in both trims.
265hp? i thought the only the ss/na was around was before 2008.5. i think he meant 205(ss/sc) cause in 2007 the SS/na was dubbed the Sport. i dont think the ss/na was a bad thing. i thurly enjoyed destroying ricers expectations that were set by the ss/na
ricer:SSs are slow i destroyed one last week in my Si
Me:did ya now? wanna race mine
now the malibu ss was a disgrace to the SS name sake.

.In any case about time someone at GM admitted they went a little "SS" happy with numerous models but the biggest hose up was badging two vehicles in the same family of car an "SS", Sport makes far more sense imo and should have been a Sport from day one. Mind you, after '05 they also modified the branding of the 2.2L models so they clearly didn't know what was going on.
My guess, they figured they could sell cars easier with the badging alone; they did just that and managed to confuse the living hell out of everyone.
They make it sound like they just recently degraded the SS badge with the late malibu SS and Cobalt SS/Na .....truth is this is how it was in the 60's .....just a trim package . There are plenty of SS Impala's , Chevelle's and Chevy II's running around with factory 6 cylinders .
who knows but they did F up the naming. Now from what i understand the RS name as gone above AND below the SS moniker, so who knows what the **** they think.
As far as the cruze SS, see my other discussion here:
