F35 is the only offered trans . They again looked into the F40 , even as far including the code in early spec sheets . Like back in 2004 though with the LSJ , there was no justifiable performance or fuel economy benefit with the f40 over the f35 .

it's not about fuel economy or performace, it's about the transmission skirting the physical limitations of the engine specs off the line. now, how long do you think those transmisions will last once people start upgrading turbos and putting an additional 100tq through them? 100tq worth of upgrades on a turbo motor isn't going to take much. if they're going to use the f35, i will bet there will be transmissions blowing apart everywhere, unless they stay with the stock clutch that just slips and can barely hold 220tq

Well when that happens, it's out of GM's hands as it wont be hard to prove the aftermarket parts are at fault for the trans failing... sucks for TC owners if thats what ends up happenin.

Its hard to say with the F35 , but the getrag trans which has a much lower rating is living being 11 sec j-bodies . Bill Hahn was optimistic the F35 would hold up no different . The only real glaring problem right now in any F35 car , stock or heathfully modded ....has been the durability of the case . Which cracks in about the same spot on all of them . That problem is preventable once you take wheel hop out of the equation . Outside of that , Ive seen no major failures that werent caused by the driver error . The first mod for anyone who buys one of these cars is either trans mounts and poly control arm bushings or at the very least a chassis brace .

there are dozens of cars on this site alone pushing well over 250wtq on the stock f35 gears. and as stated by silverss/sc, the j-bodys have also been pushing those numbers on the f23 for years now. so i dont see it as a problem. also, what guarantees that an f40 will hold more power?

I have pushed 350+ ft/lbs of torque through my F23 getrag, having drive shaft level 3 axles and Mickey drag slicks; when on the track. I have yet to break anything... Best 60' time has been about 1.78 sec... (so you know I am dropping it hard off the line.)

I'm sorry to say but wheel hop alone is not the problem. People need to realize that mounts stiffin up everything and that is just as bad if not worse. Its not a good thing to stiffin up a already weak tranny. Its ok to do the motor mounts but if you stiffen up the tranny all the power goes right to the tranny and it will not handle it. Could cause a cracked tranny even quicker....We have plenty of examples of cracked trannies here on the LSJ forums...

Hi,

I am in Germany and have an Opel Astra rally car with a 2.0L Ecotec non-turbo motor and an F23 transmission. Could anyone advise on where I can get uprated shafts for a US-market F23 tranmission Saturn or Cobalt? They should fit.

Our website if you want to take a look is www.kickastra.com

Check out J-body.org for info on the Cavaliers. (I'm guessing the f23 is in them)

vibrations of wheel hop are stopped with the new revised control arm bushings and beefed up axles to far exceed the advertised so called "safe" gearbox torque of the f35. And the clutch is also being upgraded to handle more than 250tq. I am running 240tq to the crank and am having no slip problems with 31k and over 40 passes at the track and maybe a 150 dig runs alltogether. Yea clutch lets up a little higher than it used to but that's gonna happen as hard as i drive the car. i predict 10k left on the clutch but it has had stg 2 in it since it had 3k on it. And GM says you have to upgrade the clutch in the LSJ Power book
