Your name says it all, SS-4-Ever I just find the Cobalt to be a little more practical, but if I was buying a second car I'd go with a Sky/Solstice.

Only reason I did not get a Solstice over the Cobalt is the fact it was not meant for big+tall people (Im 6'5" and 340lbs, but it was the leg room that was a problem - I literally could not sit in the car, my knees were unable to fit under the dash)

 

I went on www.gmfamilyfirst.com logged in my family employee account and priced the currently available Solstce GXP. It stickered for 28k after I selected the leather otion the price went up to 29k GMS said 26 after everything selected and there is a $1000 rebate and final quote was 25,696k

I've read that it will most likey not be more than $1000 total. I also heard it could be cheaper but I'm not planning on it. I predict that it'll start around 29k so taking off that $1000 rebate and I'm assuming it'll be like 26k after rebates... At least i'm hoping...

Also LMAO about the phallus looking front end. I'm starting to hear that a lot. Again I like the Cobalt SS but I kinda want something different, and RWD. But I'm basically going to shoot for the Solstice Coupe GXP, if I can't afford to get it (basically costing me 27k or higher) or if there's not enough room then hey you can't complain about getting a brand new Cobalt SS/TC loaded for $21,500 can you?

I'm pretty annoyed with GM about the Solstice Coupe.

There are NO REASONS it should be heavier or more expensive than the Convertible. GM is letting the Pontiac dealers do their normal markup BS that is what has been the downfall to the GTO, Solstice, and G8, and might as well be the grave marker for the Pontiac brand.

Shoot, I might as well start building Pontiacs for GM myself, as even I could do a better job than they have in the last five years.

You can't blame the GM of today for what the dealers do, with the way the contracts are set up between GM & the dealers there isn't much GM can do to punish individual dealers.

 

Didn't read the whole thread but i'd say Saturn Sky and fellas some of you forgot, the Soltica and Sky are RWD oh the fun that can be had.

 

We have a Sky RL and SS/Sc.
It all depends on what your lifestyle is. If you never need to carry more than 3 bags of groceries or you and your girl never plan on playing golf (I doubt if you can even get one full size golf bag in a GXP trunk) then the GXP is fine. The GXP may make you feel cramped. There is very little room to move around AND the windows are so short you have the illusion that you have "tunnel" vision...this is with the top up and with the coupe it will always be up.

The GXP is not lower than the SS, so that is not a problem. The SS weighs less by about 300lbs...not sure how much less than the GXP coupe.

The GXP will definitely get more looks..again depending on your lifestyle and driving style that is a double edge sword.

I have found this interesting...when driving the Sky you just want to cruise, find the back roads and take easy. When driving the SS it begs you to drive more agressive maybe because it does not feel as refined..more like a bull compared to a panther.

As someone mentioned b4...I would not reccomend anyone getting a Sky/Soltice unless they have access to another car.

Yes, I can. They do have to renew their contracts every so often, and it is plainly obvious what has been killing off Pontiac sales. Furthermore, they have the power to force all Pontiac dealers into the current Pontiac/Buick/GMC group they are becoming currently, so, it is not like they have no say.

Pontiac's sales in the last decade have been primarily to fleets, and there, it has been mostly rentals. It is downright PATHETIC that a "Performance" division should sell the majority of its cars to fleets.

 

Pontiac hasn't been a performance division for a long time, its been an 'image' division for the past few decades.

I know... the Sky looks sooo much better. I never actually cared for the Solstice until the Coupe came out. If they made a Sky Coupe it'd be between that and a SS/TC.

I was on solsticeforum.com and I asked those that saw the Solstice Coupe (It was just at Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Mi last weekend, there's one spotted running around southeast Michigan, and they were at the Solstice enthusiasts annual meeting at the Wilimington, DE plant) and they said that you can actually pack quite a bit in the back if you get a little creative and a engineer that drove it from Detroit to Wilimington said he paked it "fully to the hilt"

As far as driving more than one person goes, or ground clearance (the SS feels lower to me as far as clearance goes) and winter driving, those won't be issues. My only concern is having a little space to at least put stuff in like a sports bag, some groceries, clothes and gear for a weekend trip. So if that works out i'm sold.

 

I'm the opposite. I cared about the Solstice until the Coupe came out.

 

Really? Well I think the car has either the "love it" or "hate it" styling. A lot of people like its roadster look and prefer to keep it that way, (beauty is also in the eye of the beholder) and I can see how some people wouldn't like it. I've always been more of a coupe guy, I just find them to be a little more practical. Plus I also do autocross, and participate in track days so it would be easier to have a coupe over a convertible for that... but it's all good.

 

The solstice coupe is really nice looking and has way more trunk room than the convertible with the top up. Because of the coupe design they were able to move different things to allow for more trunk space. I was at the Wilmington, DE unveiling for Kappa Mecca tour. Just remember that anytime you want that top off you need TWO people to do it. And you can't bring it with you once its off. There is noway to store it in the car. You have to purchase the collapsible fabric top in order to have some protection from the elements (rain). If this is your primary vehicle i say go with the cobalt.
