Car accident 09 yellow sedan ss

I didnt post it in here yet, but another yellow sedan was involved in a car accident

Wife was driving at the time (9am) and the girl that hit her claimed she dropped her oatmeal and was leaning over to pick it up in the passenger floor. My wife was at a red light. She was sandwiched into the E150 work van in front of her. Heres the damage.

Estimates looking at about ~$2250. They plan on reusing the front bumper... I personally know that once it has an impact its going to get spider fractions... I slid into a snow pile one time, no visible damage, 2 years later, lower passenger side had spider cracks throughout the paint. I am going to push the shop to replace the bumper.

Also the driver side fender is shifted to the door. Not contacting but clearly closer. The driver side headlight is also more pushed in as well. The hood latch is alittle goofy now, I have to slam it to shut it. and the radiator fan is unhinged and resting on the charge pipe on the driver side. Also I noticed a rubber looking flat piece caught up in the rear passenger spring, looked like it belonged at the top. Its not there anymore as it must have fallen off, is it important? I should have grabbed it when I noticed it in the first place.

The trunk lid is contacting the rear quarter panels so I sure theres alittle frame damage pulling the rear quarters in to meet the trunk...

Any type of rear quarter panel damage and its usually a write-off. You sure they aren't going to total it?

Ah, the classic drop-the-oatmeal-and-forget-that-someone-is-stopped-in-front-of-you accident. See it all the time.

Really sucks. Hopefully they fix it right, but if the frame's bent up even a little bit it'll be expensive to fix. They probably didn't look hard enough when they quoted you.

Sorry to see this. The standards to qualify for a driver license in this country are pathetic. I hope it all works out well for you.

It's one thing to be dumb enough to eat oatmeal and drive, it's a whole new level of stupidity to admit it when you cause an accident....

I wish police would just confiscate people license for stupid **** like this, they obviously aren't mature enough for the responsibility.

Make damn sure you look over everything. Panels not matching can mean serious structural damage. You don't want to get it back only to find something a month later. Shame, it's a beautiful car . I hope you wife is ok.

yeah, I was worried about the rear quarters. I mean they arent scratched up and dented or bent but you can tell they were slightly pulled in. Its touching the trunk lid on both sides like in that one photo. The frame behind the crashbar (which probably split in half from the hood latch) has a smash mark in it. Looks pushed in alittle. The front fender is bothering me because of the gap between the door and fender. The right side looks normal.

I saw the $2250 quote and thought damn thats crazy cheap for what could be potentially frame being pulled. The guy said a frame pull is in the quote... I literally think they arent planning on doing any work up front... just buff it out and call it good.

The shop should have to remove the front/rear bumper to check to additional damage, after that if they find more the insurance should go and check the car out again, then they should do a supplement for the remaining damage that appears

The cars don't look that bad to cause the amount of frame bending you're speculating, but crazier things have happened. If any of the rocker/b panel area is bent it'll likely be totalled for sure.

Eating oatmeal while driving? That's almost the same as eating BBQ chicken whole driving. Glad your wife was ok. Hope you get the ride back up and running

I bought my car with an estimated $4000 in damages. The insurance company was going to pay for it. If they did total it out, I sure don't know about it, because I bought it from the guy real quick and my title is still clean I think the insurance company will pay. If not, buy it back and fix it yourself. 15 of these made, can't let stupid ass drivers take them all. GL!!

so they took the bumpers off and found additional damage. the estimate jumped up to ~$5000. Crazy... The floor pan had damage and they are just going to replace the rear section. Apparently it bolts on. I thought everything was welded or unibody back there.

Pretty sure the floor pan is welded.

I'd get this verified man before they mess with it.

The floor pan they are going to pull, the part I think they are talking about is behind the rear crash bar and before the floor pan. The area that makes up the trunk wall where the trunk lid closes.

The autobody shop also called me yesterday to tell me about the additional damage in more detail. They are replacing the front and rear rails, bent tab on the mishimoto radiator. Guessing theyll just bend it back.

So I think what the Progressive guy meant was the "rear rail". Also the latex foam thing that sits on top of the rear springs, one fell out and I didnt know what it was. They are gonna put a new foam thing in lol.

Those damn foams things came out a long time ago on my car. Always meant to replace them but never did.

Oh, ok.

I thought the floor area in the cabin was distorted and they were going to replace that. My mistake.

they said the floor pan is damaged. I looked obviously after the accident inside the trunk, lifted the carpet, checked battery and spare, I didnt see anything. But hey, if they say it needs some work, so be it.

got the car out of the shop. Only a few issues I have right now with the way the car sits.

#1. They did nothing about the concern I had about the driver side fender shifted back a little. I can let this slide as its not hitting the door but its obvious to me.

#2. They couldnt get the OEM exhaust tip so they gave me this 4.5" gaudy as **** tip with a big chevy bow tie on top. The tip extends about 3" further than the OEM exhaust tip. Alittle too far. Since its installed with a Vband clamp, I can adjust it or change it. No problem.

#3. They installed a phillips head screw in my passenger rear Direzza Z2 tire... and there fix is to just plug it. Its painful since its still about 75-80% of the tires life left... I guess I will just deal with the plug and if it fails, I will tell them to put a new tire on the insurance quote...

Things Im happy with. fresh coat of paint on front bumper and blended to fenders and A-pillar. They attempted to touch up the rock chips. Looks really good now, I mean the rock chips are still evident but they did a better job than I would have. The front bumpers the same from the accident but they did a good job on it.
New rear bumper is great as well. I had some imperfections on it thanks to my carelessness. a crack in the paint, a cut near the tail light thanks to my dog and her leash. Looks great now. Im probably going to change the exhaust in the near future though...
