Cranks & Cranks then.......!!!

Well as everyone knows I had to swap out pistons which was done broke hole motor down an used this whole weekend to put her back together. The moment of truth I pull fuel relay crank her a couple times to dr oil flowing put fuel relay in and she cranks strong but won't start... Pull plugs they wet swap plugs same thing so I let her sit overnight for fuel to evaporate now this morning same thing, plugged everything in lines up all timing marks, seems to not get spark but when I test the plugs They spark what am I missing.

How do you know you're getting fuel? And how did you test for spark? Any codes?

Fuel is n the cylinders and I test the spark by putting it n te coil put a bolt thru the mounting hole and touch it to the body when u crank it the plug sparks

How should the cam position sensor be??

Check the crank position sensor, cam position, sensors and can phasers. If they are all plugged in then your motors out of time

That doesn't mean it didn't hop teeth when you reset the tensioner. Verify 100% yoor engines in time

sounds to be likes its off. What did you do when you timed it???

well did you put piston number 1 at tdc when you timed it? its possible to line all the marks up without number 1 at tdc but if you did it that way your motors out of time.

No didn't put piston 1 at tdc, so it's out of time which means the head has to come bk off to see that?

Use a pencil/wooden rod through the spark plug hole or at least that's what some old hot rodders will do, not sure how touchy these engines are. Someone with more experience building these can say if this is a good idea on these engines.

the head doesnt have to come back off... the valve cover and front engine cover for sure need to come back off as well as the timing chain tensioner.

you timed your engine with the head on correct? so then theres no reason it needs to come off

take a long quarter inch socket extension(i have one thats like a foot and a half long). stick it down in the spark plug hole for number one and rotate the engine till its at tdc. then start the timing procedure.

if you turned your engine over without the engine timed correctly you have more issue than timing now... you possibly bent valves.

If you did bend them and you still have good compression, you now will have valve guide wear and premature failure of valve seals, etc.

IF he bent them. i would recommend a compression test. depending on how far out of time it was he could of done no damage at all or a whole lot of damage. ive made this mistake once in the past on the very first ecotec i timed(followed the service manual and it does not say anything about placing the engine at tdc). anyways did no damage to the guides, seals, valves or anything. again this all depends how far out of time you were. i was like 2 teeth off in the end which is nothing. if your one tooth off the car will still fire and run fine but will throw cam correlation codes. the lnf tends to be a lot different then the lsj.

He might get lucky and have timing reversed, intake valves open on exhaust stroke, exhaust valves on intake
