Help. engine getting KR after swapping head

after installing a head with valve springs i am getting large amounts of knock retard when i rev the engine or slight throttle when cruising. engine is timed correctly and there is nothing loose that could be rattling. any quick input of gas causes KR however i have none when i am bouncing off factory launch control. i get the exact same amount of KR(usually around 3-4) with or without the knock sensors disconnected. any thoughts or new ideas that cause this would be awesome.

Ecu calibration issue, the ecu loves to set kr if it isn't completely happy.

It's not related to timing, the fact it was there with the knock sensors unplugged says it's not timing related. Your fuel trims can cause kr to show up (it's not actual kr, just the ecu is calling it not liking something kr), to quick of timing transition, to quick of cam tables, injection angle being incorrect, and the list goes on.

I remember this from back in 09-10 when people were upgrading their valve train via springs/rockers/followers and it causing KR. I think it was BTF and PrincessTurbo that both experienced it. Maybe even OneBadBlueberrySC (may have spelled that incorrectly)

OP, I'd pull the valve cover and make sure everything is good. It's definitely a mechanical issue but not may not necessarily be a 'problem'

Sometimes that doesn't matter.

Have you tried putting a stock or gms1 tune on it?

Normally I'd agree with you, but it still shows KR when he disconnects the sensors. If the valve train was causing the sensor to register KR unplugging them would remove the KR.

If the OP isn't seeing an actual drop in timing (commanded vs observed) it's not actual KR, its the ecu saying there is something i don't like so i'm going to register KR. When I was on e47 I would get some KR just like the OP was indicating, I smoothed out my fuel trims and tweeked my injector angles and the KR went away. I found out it wasn't pulling timing before the adjustments, so I made them.
