help turbo ss problem intake system issue

Help! I have a minor problem with my cobalt ss. It is related to the intake system. while swaping out the stock air filter for a k&n filter i noticed something disturbing. The elbow that connects the airbox to the turbo has a nipple on it which houses the crank case breather hose. this nipple has broken off!! i have no check engine light but i dont want debris getting absorbed in the crankcase. i have made an extension to the nozzle so i can put the hose back on. its not 100% yet. it looks like the plastic got too hot and just broke like it was brittle. any ideas on where to get a new elbow? or if i need a new elbow?

Unless your engine got like 400 degrees or more it didnt affect the plastic also the intake hose is a high strength high melt plastic and the flat area is not to clear the hood there are other things higher on the engine than the intake it makes the air flow faster so for all of the people thinking of changing that it wont be better dought will have as much airflow with aftermarket round piping.

i guarantee its the same issue mine had that caused this. as the motor torques the plastic duct is forced out of the holder and moves around. on mine it broke the connector off the fuel pump housing.

Ok this is from Service info from GM, i just wanted to inform people so this doesn't happen again, that breather hose is supposed to be removed from the intake while removing the air filter or working on the intake tube!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it is a simple disconnect procedure. If you look at the pic it is the cream color tab that you press together to release tube.Hope this helps people out.

This step applies to the Q release type connectors ONLY. Release the fitting by pushing the tab toward the other side of the slot in the fitting.

Probably be a good idea for anyone who doesn't change there own oil to tell the techs to leave the air box alone they love to pull them off and sell you a air filter inflated price of course. And yes I hate some plastic parts myself they can be made as strong as the maker wants with the right polymers and additives like fiberglass some parts are made to fail so you have to buy a new one plastics do not take well to lateral force in thin areas the intercooler and intake pipes are a good example of being made with filler it appears very strong to me not crappy like on older cars like my 92 mustang which has a new stainless intake now with k&n filter my cobalt ss/tc is staying stock until I find out anything is better flow I think it will be found out the flat tube has better flow than any aftermarket round piping just my opinion so take it or leave it.

Yeah i feel we will be seeing more of this!!! maybe they will come with an updated part on a campaign. Not sure about the factory intake being better then aftermarket, i can fit my fingers around some of the intake parts, gotta remember they have to meet noise reduction levels too so it is pleasing to everyone.

Yeah you are probably right about the intake hope it's better than my mustang had a tiny pipe within a pipe silencer I was more referring to peoples concern about the intercooler pipe where it goes flatter over the valve cover. I've seen performance pipes that had this same feature and it was supposed to make the air flow faster I also noticed that the flat area was wider than the round area so flow should be pretty good I think .Not sure if it was to clear the hood or not if you look at it the air cleaner housing is a cpl inches higher than the pipe is?

What is the K&N replacement filter for the SS/TC? I've checked on their website and all they have listed is an oil filter. Is it the same one as the Sky/Solstice? I was worried that it might be a different shape...please help because I'd love to get a K&N air filter ASAP!

Also wondering....if the replacement filter is the same for these, would the Typhoon kit for the 2.2 also work for the SS/TC? This is PN 69-4515TS. Thanks for the help!
