My fuel trims set at -2 to -5 with the k &n. They even sat that way with the stock airbox modded.

So I just installed my K&N over the weekend. Worked great for the first 3 days or so (filter rotated so the K&N is right side up, around the 1 o'clock position). I was driving home last night and the car started bucking and not making any power or even boost. I switched my RPD to A/F and found it was switching between way lean and way rich (12.9 - 16.5 or so), but it didn't throw any codes. Is this typical with the K&N? I've got the GMS1. I rotated the filter to about the 2 o'clock position and haven't had any issues yet today.

hmm. Some people that have GMS1 say the K&N works fine and some say it doesnt. If you dont see the issue again, it might just be because of the filter being at a "1 oclock" postion. Are your MAP sensors settled right? meaning did they trim away a bit of the plastic so that its seated properly and no air could possibly slip by? that would cause the rich condition. as for 16.5 that seems really lean.

Did it hold 16.5 for a few seconds or did it briefly flash to 16.5?

Since I put the K&N on, I have noticed that if I don't let the car go through it's CAT Warm up Cycle, and I start driving it, the next time I turn the car on it will stutter and throw a CEL. If I do 2-3 full Cycles once the CEL is on, the CEL goes away on its own. This could be poor install of the GMS1, coincidence, or the intake. I don't have anything to measure my trims. I have it rotated to CudaJoe's method, which has worked (you can see that in previous posts as well). Even though it doesn't "Need" a tune...it needs a tune :-/

Does anyone have the hydroshield installed over their filter? Does this have any effect on the fuel trims?

Just wondering...

That's a good question, thought about getting a hydroshield but decided it wasn't necessary. Let us know what you find out

I do, but don't have any way to data log. I got it just because I figured it couldn't hurt. I did have to clean it off last weekend because there was some salt on it...which means, yes, even with where the filter is located, it can still get a bit of water...

I really have had no issues with the K&N since I put it on last October. I did have an initial concern because it would shudder a bit when I was crusing on the expressway, but haven't had an issue since November. Everything seems to work just fine.

No way to check fuel trims but have the filter wrap and have never had an issue with the car.
