Looking to buy/lease 2010 Cobalt SS

The lease is almost finally up on my 2007 cobalt LS 5spd, thank god lol and I really like the 2010 SS. Just wondering what you guys think of the car as a daily driver, I heard the ride may be rough at times, but i guess that would be expected with the type of suspension the car has. Any major problems, i heard there were also some brake issues, nothing too serious i hope

Its actually pretty tough to find them, Im in NYC, I really wanted the imperial blue metallic color but they are impossible to find. Also trying to see if I can afford the monthly payment, most quotes i got were in the 300-350 range for 5 or 6 years

thanks again guys

Wow, that's a pretty heafty mo payment!
I actually found a USED 09 with low mi from a dealer for 16K. That would be your best bet and you could finance that. If could come up with 5K down your mo payments would prob be half that for a shorter period too. BTW love the car..great as daily driver too.

Yea to be honest I thought that was kinda on the high side as well, and that was with 5k as a down payment. I actually found an 09SS for 17K, not crazy about the color (red) but it still looks good, and im hopin if i put 5k down, i can get the monthly payments in the low 200s

thanks for the info man, and another thing about the car i was quoted 330 a month for the 2010 and it doesnt even have a limited slip differential, screw that

I drive my balt daily, and I love it. It's not fun in traffic, but manual cars never are. It actually goes pretty good in the snow if you buy some 17" wheels and snow tires. The ride is a little rough, worse than normal balts, but it doesn't bother me. I guarantee you will not find one of these up for lease, they are too rare, and they aren't even in production anymore so they're even harder to find new. Your best bet is to buy used and save the money.

also with having it as a daily, try not to go black, you will end up washing the damn thing twice a week like I do. It will drive you insane.

After my negative equity from my old cobalt i settled for 27k on my 3 week old 2010 ss. I had to drive 1.5 hours to get it and i put $500 down so my payments are $464 a month on 72months at 8.2% I have always wanted an ss ever since i saw them in 04 i love the car alot. Stock some of my friends with previously faster cars picked on me for getting another balt but shutup when i embarrased them. I love the car alot an dont regret it at all. Oh and i brought $3800 negative from my other cobalt ls

Hey thanks again for the info guys, yea my 07 cobalt LS is black, what a PITA and its also a 5pd so im used to driving in traffic, especially in NY.
Yea the 2010 I was looking at is black, doesn't have any options, Limited-slip diff, sport pedals etc. that y i though 330 was a little high for 72 months, and thats with 5k down payment. This also includes the 5 payments i have left on my current lease

The SS as a daily driver is actually quite liveable. Once you get used to the video game-like accelerator. The ride may be harsh on some bumps/speed bumps but its certainly worth the handling. You'll hardly care. Mileage is okay if you can keep your foot out of it... which I can't. Also, don't fret using premium fuel.. its only a couple of bucks more per tank.

The icing on the cake is the sound system, USB port on the radio and Bluetooth capability... oh and the RPD.

I set mine up using the owners manual. You may also need to consult your cell manual too.

If you have 5000$ to put down, just finance the rest. Leasing a car for 330-350$ a month for 5-6 years is just stupid. Then have to get rid of it, and have nothing to show for? It's useless. You could have an SS paid off in 5-6 years paying that amount along with that down payment. And guess what.... you own the car!!! And if you get rid of it in the 5-6 years like you would in a lease....YOU get money!!!

it only worked out that way because of my negative equity from my old car being so damn high it would have been even more if the sales manager was'nt an idiot. my old cobalt had tons of aftermarket and my neighbor had destroyed my quarter panel and hit it a few other times while it was parked. all of it was fixed but i owed somewhere between 10-11 and carmax wanted to give me only 4k for it and others wanted to give me 6k but the dealer i went to wanted to give me 6k and i sat there for over 9 hours to get 7500 for it. i know its a rediculous payment but next year im going to refi it and lower the payments but im going to make as much above to normal payment as i can to lower it quicker

i got the ss itself for $21,514 which was even good becuase the guy in internet sales misadvertised it and i called them and they said they would honor the price then when i got there they tried to increase it and say it was after incentives and nowhere on that page did it say that nor did they tell me that over the phone before i drove all that distance so i told them they had to give me that car for that price or i could sue them so the guy shutup and did. i hate dealers soo damn much and sticker on the car was like 25k. in the end it was like a win/loss for me because i was at the point i needed to just dump my old car and i have no regrets at all about it

the funny thing was my insurance went down

Yea you're def right, imperial blue metallic looks great on these cars. The only problem is I cant find one, I used cars.com and the closest one is in North Carolina, I live in NY and the rest of em are on the west coast. Anyone know any other good car search websites?

Yeah its a tough color to find. Back when I bought mine in 08 I really wanted Imperial blue. I could only find 2 SS/TCs in the state for sale, and one was Imperial blue....I got lucky

I got my car for $340/mo $0 down at 3.9%. I wouldn't pay anything over $350 for ANY cobalt...

If you're that upside down you'd best buy gap insurance. That and you may have an issue with refi because banks usually only want to finance 120% of the car's value on the loan. I checked with my bank and they valued the SS at $18.5k even before I drove it off the lot... so good luck.

Heh, I took a 44 month loan, 4K down 494 a month, thats alot of fours. I'm already 15 months into payments plus I made 9 double payments on the principal alone. I figured this would be better for me on a car that devalues so quickly.

I got my 09 as a new carry over and paid 12068.00 for it. MSRP was 26k. GMAC 229.00 a month.
The dealer really wanted it gone. had it for 10 months I guess nobody wanted a black SS four door. I was looking for a used Cobalt but ended up with a new one.

I'm right at 20k miles on mine right now and it's purely a daily driver. With this in mind here are some of my observations - good, bad, or indifferent - FWIW.

- I'm averaging right at 28.5 mpg with ~60 miles/day round trip to work with the GMS1 tuning. This is mostly highway, but some stop-n-go.

- Driving manual trans in traffic is a non-issue for me - been doing it for decades. While I'd have liked a 6-spd trans in this car, it does fine with the F35. There is plenty of torque at low RPM that you don't find yourself hunting between 1-2 in slow moving traffic. If you've ever driven an older 2.0L WRX you know what I mean - poor gear spacing and turbo lag = .

- I'm a pretty mellow driver and my OEM Conti front tires were down to the wear bars after ~ 18k miles. Rears still have good tread (haven't measured it exactly). This is expected with a nose-heavy front driver and soft tires. Just something to be aware of...

- I have grooving of the inboard rear rotors like many others. I did pull the guide pins and lube them when I first bought the car as they were dry as a bone. I will be installing new OEM rear rotors and Hawk HPS rear pads next week. I had no issues with the OEM rear pads other than the wear. I've had good experience with Hawk HPS on other street-driven vehicles so I'm going to give them a try on the rear. I've had no issues with the fronts.

- On same note these are aggressive pads from the factory and will make some noise - mostly when cold - and a good amount of dust. Doesn't bother me, but some folks don't care for it.

- Interior is Cobalt/GM - it will rattle and vibrate. You're used to this already I would guess.

- Paint on the hood, front bumper, and forward front fenders takes a beating. Not sure if this is the shitty road maintenance here or the quality of paint. Probably a combination of both although it "seems" to be worse with this car than previous vehicles I have owned. The dark color obviously contributes.

- Car is nimble and IMO fun to drive even in traffic. Steering is weighted perfectly for my tastes (I like it on the heavier side) and brakes are great. Ride is pretty darn good when you consider that its on very short sidewalls and sporty suspension. Expansion joints and potholes will make themselves known, but, again, that's to be expected in a car like this.

- Overall, I think this is a great, sporty daily driver. I've owned the car for around 18 months now and even with some of the little issues I would still buy it today if I had it to do over again. IMO there's nothing in this category that competes with this car for performance bang-for-the-buck.

Hope that helps...
