Question Overwrite trifecta tune with hp tuner?

Hey fellow cobalt guys I have a question on my 2008 cobalt ss. I was wondering seeming I am getting my car tuned this Friday on a dyno and my car is currently tuned with trifecta and it's been some sort of a pain to get sold of the guy who flashed my ecu to flash it back to stock. So I was wondering if I could overwrite the whole tune with the hp tuners software?

You should try ahead of time, but, usually, no. Some people here say yes, it will, but in my experience it would not write over.

Angry

Damit, yeah the tuner said we would give it a shot before we bother putting it on the dyno. Damn.. I guess I'll continue to try and get ahold of original tune

Email trifecta your VIN and tell them you need the stock tune file back.

You need a EZ flash cable as well.

Or you can pay the a dealer to flash a stock file, which should effectively remove the trifecta file.

You can write over a trifecta tune with a HPT file. it's fine.

I laugh too; especially with his history of being so wrong....

If you vin change someone else's file, I'm fairly certain you can overwrite it. but you run the risk of bricking an ECU, it's not as easy as just the standard vin change when using a hptuners file from the vault.

I couldn't VIN write to the p12 even after I change it. Trifecta wouldn't let the PCM communicate with the HP interface.

Idk about an e69; never tried to change the VIN and write over.

I had a trifecta tune on my PCM, I went to a different tuner with HPtuners and he made GMS1 file, corrected some maf tables, and then did a write entire. My PCM was fine and is still fine to today. I've got through EXPIRENCE rather than someone telling me "It should be okay"

Just because it didn't brick your ecu doesn't mean it will not brick someone else's. Hence the it should be ok, but there is a chance of bricking the ecu.

It just cracked me up that you state it as a fact when I spelled out that sometimes you can, sometimes you cannot AND Eric specified their is a risk to it. You act like you are some sort of authority all the time when people that KNOW wtf they are talking about are giving clear information.

I went through this with Trifecta last year. I emailed them to get the stock file back (car was tuned by the previous owner). They asked why and I told them I was going to have a local place dyno tune it with HP tuners. They said I did not need it back since the tuner can overwrite the Trifecta tune. I thought it was odd since everyone says the opposite. I still haven't gotten my car tuned but I plan on this summer.

I think some people had issues with trifecta having locked the ecu or something so they couldn't overwrite. But idk. Never had to deal with it since I had the cable and went to stock before I hptuned

When John tuned me he said I needed to get the trifecta off first so I did. Luckily I'm the one that put it on there.
