P0443 and car will not idle after code cleared

My evap purge solenoid has been unplugged for a year woth no problems but this weekend my car will not idle 90% of the time and if it does it runs like hell for 20 sec then shuts off. I checked and cleared code P0443 but still nothing. And there is a strong fuel smell out the exhaust and when I removed the plugs you can def tell its running rich. I have gms1 with catless do so could my prob be an o2 sensor?? I do not have a defouler if that matters. Thanks in advance. Or could it be something else? I'm just trying not to take it somewhere if I don't have to.

have you tried replacing the solenoid rather then unplugging it.

No I have not. I just figured since its been working with it unplugged it wouldn't matter if I replaced it or not. If that sounds stupid pls forgive, I'm not that knowledgeable. But I'm guessing that could cause the vehicle to not run properly?

Replace the purge valve. Plug it back in, then monitor your fuel trims. You literally have no idea how it is running with that thing unplugged because the ltft is stuck.

Can you monitor your stft ?

You have a vac leak. Sounds like a big one.

P0443 is for the UNPLUGGED evap purge solenoid. Literally thats what the code is for. If your evap purge solenoid is leaking then you have a boost leak as in you are leaking air through it into the gas tank. Idle will be **** if that purge valve thing is not working. some people have rough idles and some people just have hard starts.

Replace the purge valve, its easy and its less than $40

One more item to check... There was a recall on the HPFP recently for leaks. You will smell gas if its leaking. The smell might not be your exhaust but your engine bay.

So is the purge valve the one on the intake that's unplugged or the one on the canister by the gas tank?

im assuming its the one on your intake manifold. That is the one called an EVAP purge solenoid/valve.

The one on the gas tank is the EVAP Vent solenoid/valve.

If you unhook the EVAP Purge solenoid on the intake manifold, you should throw a code after 40 something "drive cycles". Which says its malfunctioning. hence CEL.

Driveability issues should arise from a bad EVAP purge valve because its a source of boost leak. metered air being "corrupted" by excess fuel vapor which was not calculated for (cause fuel trims to run rich), or loss of metered air (cause fuel trims to also run rich).

BIG question...

When you said you unhooked it, do you mean the electrical "pigtail" connector OR do you mean you removed the whole Purge valve leaving a big opening on the intake manifold? Or possibly dissconnecting the vac line to the intake manifold?

The pigtail, but its been like that for a year. And today I tried unplugging the maf and it actually started and ran fine, so I bought a new one but that didn't work either. But if the maf is unplugged I can drive around, just no boost. I'm about to the point of catching it on fire.

Its hard to say without having any way to monitor the engine. Could be a massive vacuum leak, ifrc when you unpulg the maf it goes to fueling solely off the oxygen sensor.
Boost leak, replace and gap plugs, that's general things but without any data its difficult to say what is wrong
