Depends on how people want to do it. If it works, with the DLC + cigarette lighter way there is no way the wiring would cost $200.
But if you also noticed I included a link to mouser.com which sells Delphi connectors and all the connectors are Delphi, not molex
BTW, how much did you pay for the RPD?

For a cable why not pick up an OBDII open end cable from here

and put the RPD connector on the other end the only additional wire you would need is the ignition. The OBDII port has
battery voltage on pin 16 and ground on pin 4 and you could splice in the ignition to one of the unused
wires in the ODBII cable.

If you decide to fabricate something or splice and wire in the gauge yourself you'd want to do it right and solder all electrical connections (and especially the data bus connections). The quick splice/tap type connectors can seem to work okay initially but you'll run a much greater chance for electrical gremlins.

OK not to rain on everybody's parade,but I belive the bcm may need to be programmed for the rpd to even work. for example when i put a bcm in a cobalt i have to list all the options it has so tis can program the bcm accordingly ie remote start, power door locks, perhaps rpd ill have to look into it. i wanted to do this on my 08 so ill try to help everyone and not just myself.

You cant just plug the RPD into the DLC it will NOT work. The RPD operates on the GMLAN High speed network, and like all modules on theis network it uses 4 wires to communicate. That is 2 in and 2 out. CKT2500 GMLANHS+ comes from the BCM goes into the RPD and then comes out and continues to connector under the dash., the same for CKT2501 GMLANHS-, it goes directly from the BCM to the RPD and then out and down to the connector under the dash, and then onto the rest of the network.
All of these modules are wired in and only work in series. you cant just tap into the DLC(parallel)
Also any module loses connection, the car wont run.
The proper terminal for this circuit is a Micro .64, that is a terminal that is only .64mm in diameter. these must be crimped with the proper tool or the terminal will be damaged and wont engage in the connector and will damage its mating terminal
Theres currently no programming reference for the display. Which means the service manual says its simply plug and play. You just screw it to the pillar(a unique pillar) and plug it in.

I have a question about the 09. I am about to buy and 09 4 door SS and the RPD is not an option and I was kinda bumd about this. Will the RPD be plug and play with the 09 if ordered after? I under stand if you have to get something reprogrammed, I just don't want to do any splicing. Any info would be great.
And before anyone says get the coupe I can't, we are expecting a baby and that is the reason for the 4 door or I would be getting a coupe.

Sedan is cool, I want one, but trust me, you can have a baby in the coupe. Ive got a two year old son, a two year old niece and a 5 month old niece and they all have been in the car at least once.
The only real issue is that Grandma has a hard time kissing whoever is sitting in the middle seat.

The RPD isnt plug and play, PERIOD.(coupe or sedan) it requires fabrication of harnesses and splicing into the high priority communication lines of the vehicle

RBC, the difference between the 2 is the dash harness. One the RPD ones it has an extra connector and slightly different wiring for the connector, its not much. However, both the stock dash harness and the RPD dash harness cost $300 MSRP. So technically if you could swap the stock for the RPD option harness and pay the difference it would only be a few doallers, but good luck finding someone to buy the stock harness from you for that much.

Another issue is one for all the '08 guys that want one. The 2009 uses a different body control module(which is what the RPD is "downstream" from) than the 2008 cars.
I dont know what the difference is yet(there is no physical connector or pinout difference as far as I can tell), or if the 08 BCM will still allow the RPD to communicate.

Nope...not for an 08... it has already been tried...there was even someone on here that was going to try to build a harness... I don't think they were successful though
Just go with an aftermarket... I have seen the rpd in person. It is neat, but doesn't do a whole lot. You have to turn the knob on the front to chose a new screen (not something you are going to be doing while performing a pull) and it does not data log (so you will have no idea how well you did over the course of a pull unless you watch it constantly)...it is also a thick square box that sits in the corner (it does have a cool starting screen) ...I have also seen the dashhawk in person and I must say that was pretty nice (and you can hide the cord somewhat) but I think I am going to wait for a dash DAQ myself (it has a nicer display)....

Yep - that's why I'm working on getting an '09 tonight.
Only downside is it has 241mi, as a result of being traded from 1 dealer to another, and probably a few test drives, but it has all the good stuff: LSD, HiWing, RPD, USB Radio, Sunroof, and real spare. Plus, the black+red interior, of which there is only 1 more in the state, about 200mi north, and it has the later near $26K MSRP.

I'm no authority on this, but it seems like its getting the inlet temperature from the intake tract (pre turbo). You can rod on the car forever and that number never deviates very far from ambient. At least mine doesnt anyway.
