random power steering issue

I wanted to know if anyone had this happen to them before. I was just driving down the road at ~25mph and all of a sudden the little information dash said 'POWER STEERING'. I noticed it, but no check engine lights or anything else were on. I wiggled the steering to see if there was actually a problem, and sure enough power steering was gone. I just pulled over and shut the car off and then turned it back on and it was back. I haven't driven the car since, but has anyone had this problem? Any ideas?

Well, it keeps happening. Going to the dealer tomorrow. I came across this post googling the problem.

Sounds like a very wide spread problem cobalt owners are having. I was looking for the power steering fluid for ever, and now I found out its got electric steering system...

There's a how-to for replacing your steering column on this site. Supposedly, you can buy a unit from a junkyard for much cheaper than the 2K that Chevy will charge you.

I just bought my 08 SS about 1.5 months ago. It still has the warranty, and I bought the extended warranty as well! If this gets replaced that will have paid for itself almost two fold.

From what I found on the internet, I am surprised I couldn't find anything on this forum about this problem.

I just had this problem on my ss/sc. It is the power steering column module or something like that. It's pretty common apparently..

I took it to the dealer and they replaced the electrical steering motor and its working just fine now. Just wanted to end the thread with what happened so it can help someone else out in the future!
