To sunroof or not to sunroof?

I am planning on getting an '09 SS and will not be getting a sunroof. I am tired of the squeak in my '06. Do they recommend a silicon or graphite spray? I can't remember. Whatever it is, it's way too expensive. I can't remember the price when I checked at the dealership, but I want to guess $80 for a little can?

Its funny, I own two cars with sunroof and one with t-tops... I never open/remove any of them. I wouldn't want to sunburn my bald spot :P
If you like sunroof, buy one. I wish my new Cobalt didn't have one (or the spoiler) but all of them on the lot had both. Just make sure if you buy a car without one you don't put an aftermarket sunroof on the car.

the way i see it, every sunroof will evetually get corked shut because of the leaking.
every time ive seen an older car that has a sunroof, its corked shut because it was leaking, you cant cut a hole in a roof and expect it not to leak. But if ur not planning on keeping the car until 150k miles do it.
and also even knowig this i would never not get a sunroof, there ****** awsome. And as i always say looking good aint cheap, or in this case easy.

Where would you spray the silicon at? Along the track or along the edges of the sunroof where you see the felt?

I have almost 9,000mi on my 08 Cobalt. I did notice a little bit of wind noise at highway speed. Fortunately, pulling the interior shade closed virtually eliminates this noise. Also, I used silicone grease to clean the edges of the sunroof AND the edges of where the rubber meets the car on the metal. This too helped in noise and creak reduction.
Here in New Jersey, we do get an ocassional -20 C day, and the sunroof was no more problematic or noisy than on a warmer day. Again, silicon spray for the rubber does wonders.
While I have yet to track the car, bringing your car to the track is a lot more taxing on the mind than most who have... yet to have even see an actual road course track will allow you to believe. A few extra pounds on the roof of your car will be the least of your concerns when you're at the edge of 1G of lateral force in the bends. There are more pressing matters at hand like... the tirewall fast approaching on your right, your speed, rpm, and current gear, what your line should be for the next two sweeping turns... yeah. Trust me, a few extra pounds on the roof is offset by the ability to enjoy your car on a nice day or night as you drive it day to day (which in all likelihood, your car will spend most of its life doing)
The lack of a sunroof can only hurt resale value, and if you really don't want to use the sunroof... that's sort of the magic of it. You can leave it closed and just... tell yourself you have a regular roof.

i had the power sunroof on my 05 and now on my ss/tc. never had any problems other than the occasional wind noise (which can be eliminated with the shade, as said above). also, on my 05, the framing around the button came off (known problem). but i used it all the time in the summer and its awesome, plus adds to resale. i tracked my vette (removable glass top), my ws6 (t-top) and plan on doing the same with the tc and it will be fine.

Not to mention that if you just crack the sunroof while driving around with just air going through your vents it creates a pull. Thus eliminating the use of your air conditioner, saving your gas milage, blah blah. Only time it doesn't really help is when the temp is above 100f as it tends to get that hot here in NM now and then. And, if you're a lazy ass and don't want to take care of your car like some people can't bother to take care of their writing skills, then just turn up your stereo. The sub in the trunk along with the other pioneer speakers are actually quite nice. Just pull the stereo, put a better one in along with an amp and you'll never have to worry about hearing creak again. Granted you won't hear much of anything else again either...
Worried about not being able to hear your cell ring? Plain and simple: don't talk on your cell and drive. DUH. Can't do that here anyway. It's illegal to talk on your cell and drive in most of the state anyway. Nothing like a 200$ ticket to ruin the day, eh?
