Wearing rear brakes? Come in

Just got off the phone with Able at FH Daily, he said it is a defect with the pads, and he's going to order the pads/rotors. He also says that the rotors are on national back-order, so he's going to give me the car back, cause there is plenty of life left in the pads. When he gets the parts in, he'll give me a call and get it fixed.

Dropped mine off at the delearship today and the guy called me back twenty minutes before they closed and told me it would be there until Monday for the grinding noises from the rear. Rotors are like old vinyl records and pads are worn down. I talked to one of the techs there and he told me that the grinding was wearing in and then when I told him it had 12k miles, another customer yelled out, "That's warranty work right there." lls The service guy was speechless when he drove it into the bay. He told me last week he would need to order whatever it needs. I hope this goes well.
Fronts are pristine by the way.

I was just told my grinding and scoring is normal wear and that they're not going to fix it. Now I'm waiting give me an estimate. Where can I find aftermarket brakes for this car because I refused to go through this again in another 10k highway miles?

Then you're getting screwed. Since when EVER do rear brakes wear out before front brakes. The front brakes do 80% of the stopping. This is a known issue, mine have been done twice. Call GM and start a case like JoeBMX above you did.

Just called GM Canada and told them the dealership would not do anything for me on the issue and i know that there are people locally that have had it replaced. i recommend everyone do that and call gm on the issue so we can get a service advisory issued.
ill have more on this in 24-48 hrs when i get a call back

That's my theory, and I re-adjusted my e-brake to make sure nothing was binding. I went with Hawk HPS but the Saab pads ought to fix the problem if they're not the same as the SS/TC rear pads.

These are for the rear pads for 08-09 SS/TC:
http://www.tirerack.com/brakes/brake...ar=&perfCode=S
http://www.hawkpadsdirect.com/Produc...05-18&CartID=1
I know the Tirerack link is for a 2005 Mazda, but the pads are the same Hawk number:
HB478F.605
Here is my how-to thread on replacing the rear pads:
https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/show...ght=HB478F.605
Also, check your e-brake adjustment:
https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/how-guide-43/how-adjusting-emergency-parking-brake-05-09-cobalt-w-rear-disc-brakes-168592/
Make sure you follow the recommended burnishing procedure. I found an empty parking lot and did a few laps in the early morning.

I ordered the pads will be following the how-to's. Sad I have to work on my brand new car but I'm glad I get to learn how. I hate being on someone else's time with my stuff. What do I do about the rotors looking so bad? Grooved

If you don't turn or replace the rotors, the grooves will eat into your new pads. I've had this happen with my stock Crown Vic rotors/pads. The stock pads on the Vic just chewed away all 4 rotors.

Some shops will put the rotors on a lathe or other device to help smooth the surfaces. I don't recommend it, but if you don't at least smooth it out, it will destroy your new pads.
