What do you guys think?

I may be buying this car tomorrow:
2008 Chevrolet Cobalt SS in Schaumburg, IL- 12816999 at carmax.com
I know the price is high ...dont care because I have bought cars from Carmax and they guarantee and inspect for flooding and frame damage with a 5 day money back guarantee. So to me, its worth paying more. ....

Build date 06/08
G85 Limited slip option

Question:

Build date 06/08 .....should I be concerned about the porus/cracked block issue?
Is it possible to put in the 2010 Special readout/boost gauge into a 2008?

That's a rip off.

I bought my 08 in June of '12 with the equivalent to 11,000 mi for 14.7k CDN. That's from a dealer and with our inflated Canadian price.

edit. Looks like Carmax put the cheapest tires they could find on that thing...

I wouldn't worry about the porous block. Seems to be very rare and you'd think it would have reared it's ugly head by the time the block is 8 years old.

Ignore the people who will pipe on here and tell you how horrible the price is.

The miles are low and if you like the car go for it.

You should be able to put an RPD in an 08. I know for fact they can be retro fitted into a 2009 so as long as the BCM spits out the same data on the GMLAN it'll work.

Ya know, I took a better look at the pictures.

Those strut tower tops sure look rusty as ****.

If those things WAAAYYY up high in the engine bay are rusted like that *yeah I know surface rust* then I'd hate to see what the under carriage looks like.......

IMO Pass on that one, find one that wasn't driven around in the rust belt / salted roads.

Totally un related: Years ago I had a car lot. I had a 2006 Trailblazer SS that I had purchased before I owned the lot. I bought it from a Chevy dealer locally for 20k. I drove it 2 years and put a bunch of miles on it. I then ran it through the dealer auction *wholesale prices mind you* and Carmax bought it for 23k.

They paid a lot for it but it was once clean, rare color TBSS.

They all rust a little. But that's excessive.

I picked up one from Fort Erie, ON recently and it's got 130k miles and has just a touch of surface rust there. I mean just a touch. Nothing like that 30k mile car that's linked has.

Yea, I dont know how those strut towers got that rusted...my friend used to work at Carmax and they really inspect these cars for frame and flood damage...so it was not flooded but makes you think if the original owner didn't care for it when it was occurring he probably didn't do maintenance etc. on it either. On the other hand it was probably an older guy who just thought it was a POS and didnt care....

I am going to take your advice and pass on it ....I really want a 2010 with the RPD and this porus block thing has me spooked a bit...

Really? Because 33k miles is really low ...plus no wreck and no flood damage. I have seen some around 9k and they are beat, potentially wrecked or flooded, and have high miles. If it were 2k lower I can see your point but 5k would be a POS.

Price is way to high.

It looks more like the struts are rusted not the strut towers, But regardless you can find a better deal be patient.

Am I missing something? I have an 09 with 105k miles on it and it's not worth 6-7k according to KBB.

My car is not perfect but it's above average. Some of these car prices are nuts.

If the op feels it's worth paying that for the car go for it, yes the value isn't great anymore but if he likes it he has been advised they should be cheaper
