I said 500 because iv had a 650hp a 430hp and a 300hp car never 500 and with what iv looked at it seems plausible to be able to reach 500 and the nitrous is just for the hell of it iv had it once before only used it 3 times and as far as the ricer comment Im not just trowing out numbers iv had high HP cars I just wana try 500 and the lnf platform seems likely to be able to handle it plus the car I wanted to use for the 500hp project is not legal in the US and for the record it was a Euro Ford

are you wanting 500whp or 500 crank horsepower? if all you want is roughly 500

-7163 efr
-intercooler
-charge pipes
-exhaust
-downpipe
-intake
-cams
-valve springs
-HPtuners

next decide if you want to run a blend of ethanol and gasoline or if you want to go with water/methanol injection. your going to be replacing the clutch and flywheel almost right away, CAB will probably need replacing to eliminate wheel hop with that much power, R compound tires will be a must if you want the first 3 gears to be useful.

you do whatever ur heart desires. don't listen to these people who think u need a reason for everything. sometimes we just want to do something cause we want to. I'm shooting for the same goal in my build, why? just cause I want to that's why, not racing it, don't care to be a dyno queen, just want 500whp cause its a nice round number for my goals. shoot for ur goal not what others think u should shoot for

No offense Tom but it's much different with you saying you are doing it, having ran that 6758 for awhile, and being a member for a long time, than for someone new to the platform saying it. You have experience at 350-400-close to 450hp levels and know the growing pains involved and what it will do to the car. Sometimes newer guys hear a number thrown around and think it "sounds" good. Sure it's achievable with money but sometimes the reality is that 400whp will satisfy them for quite some time and it's a lot less money, as you can attest to. In recent memory Justin Calvin comes to mind as he and kmo were having sort of a hp battle with 2 different turbos. Justin had such a hard time hooking up the 257 that he doesn't even have it anymore. He will upgrade the car again in the future but this time it's gonna be backed by a f40. I'm honestly just trying to help, not shoot down someone's dreams. Hell from stock lnf to tuned fbo, to k04+ running e47 and 4.45 gears has been a huge change for me and traction issues. Op good luck on your goals, hope you like it.

Hell in stepping from 375hp to 425 over the winter and am expecting another huge change in the car just in the 50hp.
Op if you can run some e mix it will help you a lot to get to where you need to go.

OK I've been following this thread since the beginning and all I've read is people that don't even have 500hp balts telling him he doesn't want one. I do agree that it is a big goal but instead of trashing the new guy we should help him out and give the steps to achieve his goal and make him feel welcome on the site. It costs a lot of money and requires mods to the transmission, suspension, tires and engine when stepping up to that HP level. My car does really well on springs with everything else stock with just a set of NT01s on it. I even had a split CAB and it still wasn't that bad.

The deal between Justin and I was he was chasing my numbers trying to beat me and then bought a Firechicken sold all his parts and changed his mind and wants to build the balt again. He had a 4.45 trans but did not have R compound tires so it would spool that 257 very fast and he could but not always spin in 3rd. Justin being on 481hp could spin 3rd because of his non R compound tires vs I would spin 3rd only on tons of boost.

OP building a 500hp balt is easy you just need to be complete with the build. The route I would go is a full engine build an upgraded trans & clutch plus suspension with upgraded tires. Now touching on the 500hp + a 100shot, I think isn't a good idea at all. I would buy a 7163 or 257 and crank it up on a full build. If you want to spray really bad I would buy an even bigger turbo and look at the NX turbocharger kits to run a small shot to help spool the snail then transition to boost only up top. A 100shot will nuke any F35 trans very quickly and prob end up hurting an F40 as well

The f40 is a better built and stronger trans. 5 speed f35 u gotta be carful with alot more. Why are u so stuck on nitrous?

Why?? I dynoed at 511hp @ 27.3 psi on the 71 which is a pretty small turbo compared to 257 and some others. When turned up it'll be very close to 600. My build should break 600 but isn't an off the shelf deal.

F40 6 speed is the best

One last tidbit on transmissions:

An F40 is stronger, no argument there.
But a 6 speed will be slower around a track than a 5-speed. Especially when compared to the 5-speed F35 with 4.45 final drive. More shifting simply means slower lap times. Now for a drag car, that's a different story. Like I said, vastly different setups for track or drag. Anything much bigger than a 6758 will be dragging ass out of corners on a road track because of lag.

Yes but there are 2 different gear ratioed F40s. If you got the longer geared one 2nd would be a bit more useful I'd turn the ramp off and let her eat! I'm expecting mine to spool around 3000 to 3200rpm

Does the F40 actually have a usable 1st gear? I've often wondered if they are any more practical for the drag strip then a 4.45 geared F35. I hate my 1st gear. hate it! But everything else isnt too bad. Even highway I can get 32MPG out of a tank if I keep my foot out of it at 432WHP.
OP. keep posted what path you choose to take, very interesting post : )

Doing the math on the gear ratios Ive found theres a long and short geared F40s 1 is basically a 4.45 with the 6th gear and the other is like a 3.82 so the 6th gear is useless cause it's so long. But this is just calculations on gear ratios actual real world speeds may be a bit different

Having used both the f40 and the f35 I believe the f40 1st gear is better than the f35 but its on different cars so it's hard to compare really. My cobalt is way faster than my saab so yeah

I'm with you there on hating 1st gear on a 4.45. Words can't be spoken to describe my feeling there and if I could speak words they would all be swear words. What makes it seem even worse is that 1.93 2nd gear and the big difference. I didn't notice it as bad with 3.82's. I will have my 4.05 built and will probably swap to it in another year.3rd and 4th with the 4.45 are great though.

Adrian- for drag it's the same-more shifting=less acceleration time.
Op if you are going all out an f40 is probably the way to go for longevity especially if you are doing any interstate driving. 4.45 geared f35 is the strongest 5 speed trans but it's also a lot of rpm on the freeway. Besides if you keep upping the power you will probably need it sooner or later. If you are using nitrous to spool a big turbo it may be a little different than using it after your in boost. These cars already are Capable of big torque due to the turbo.

Well, yeah, I get that, but don't most cars just use 1 2 and 3, regardless of transmission setup in the quarter? I have no experience there.

At the road track you want to use 2 3 and 4 and not have to get into 5. I was close to redlining on the straight in 4th @140 even with the F35 before I upgraded my top end so I could rev to 8K+...
