I bypassed the boost solenid at the turbocharger because I am running a MBC now. I should have been more clear with that. I could bypass that solenoid on the intake mani I would just go into my HP Tuners software and disable the code if it threw one.

I ran BCV solenoid bypassed for a week back in March, and never saw a code. Doesnt appear any of the Solstice guys experience a code either.

Would guess the PCM is pretty dumb in that respect and just knows its commanding the solenoid open/closed. I mean I guess it could be watching airflow in some way to know if what it commanded happened, but who knows. And like Term said if he or I saw a code, we could squash it anyway with a single click.

Oh ok... thanks guys. I think I'll just leave the tank bypassed but not the solenoid. So basically it's set up as a stock Solstice system would be.

Sounds like it. If you're controlling boost pressure off the ECU and not an external boost controller of some sort, I'd leave the solenoid in the system. It might save your bacon one day if something goes wrong and it goes into an overboost/boost leak situation.

I'm not good at it but I might try to work up a diagram. Basically just make it look like the first pic in post #33. Disregard the two loose ends you're left with.

Maybe should have made it more clear and took more time. The Solstice guys don't have the tank... and they bypassed the solenoid by basically connecting the BPV to the Intake Mani direct.

i have a huge problem with mine. idk if u guys read my threads about the hks bov i installed made terrible surge and weird sounds/ cel p2261. so i couldn't find a solution i took off the block off plate and followed dejons instructions. http://cobalt.dejonpowerhouse.com/ i hope this wont effect me that i change it around.
i am really excited to see if this will cure my problems and give me some extra power with infiniboost!!

Hmm... not sure I COMPLETELY understand what's going on with that. Looks like they want the INTAKE hose on the solenoid to be 'T'd and one end to the block off plate. (see my diagram above if need be). I guess to keep positive pressure on the stock BPV but vacuum will only apply to the aftermarket BOV so it opens, not the factory BPV. That's the best that I see it.
If you don't do that.... hmmmm... I guess it's possible you are creating a small loop so the boost pressure just hangs around in there instead of exiting the after market valve.

I could be totally wrong. That's how it makes sense to me right now though.

still skeptical, i did a similar mod on my wrx and it made the car run wierd, no performance was gained just crappier driveability

Wow, I'm thinking now that the solenoid isn't hooked up like I thought it was. I remember that I've got a vacuum hose that comes up from the cold-side charge pipe that goes to a solenoid (or so I thought). I remember it because I almost forgot to put it back on after I did the charge pipes . Is that a different solenoid or something or is that the "intake" connection on the diagram?

Hmm... not sure. I have stock charge piping. But I can tell you the solenoid is on top of the intake manifold by the oil dipstick.

The hose that connects to the intake.... It goes way down to the intake just after it exits the intercooler. There is a sensor right next to it down there.

So far I like the mod. (bypassing the tank, not the solenoid). I swear the car gained performance. That part might just still be my imagination. But I can say that without any doubt the BPV reacts MUCH MUCH faster and dumps pressure very quickly.

Wait, what? I understand them not having the tank, but not how they're running without a solenoid.

If a line goes directly from intake to BPV, then the BPV would be pointless as it would never trigger properly.

If a line goes directly between the BPV and the manifold, then the BPV would trigger and blow a bunch of charged air into the manifold after it shot back past your compressor wheel.

They have to have a solenoid to allow the manifold vacuum to trigger the flow without directing a bunch of charged air back into the manifold.

I did notice something. It appears they are bypassing the solenoid. We have a tank in addition to the solenoid.

This is the SOLSTICE before shot... which is what mine looks like right now afterwards.

This is their after shot...


If you look at OURS though, we have a tank sitting below the manifold that they do not have. If you look at the picture I circled the hoses in and compare it to the before shot in this post you'll see what I'm talking about. I just noticed it myself that the two cars are different in that sense.

I'm skeptical of using a 'T' though... I don't know how exactly that solenoid is performing which is why I am skeptical. Maybe someone with more knowledge can chime in.

I guess I forgot to mention the throttle body. If you let off the gas while under boost it will close. Then you have pressure in the intake tract, but vacuum in the intake manifold. So at the BPV then has pressure on one side of it's diaphragm and vacuum on the other cause the line is fed from the manifold and it opens to relieve pressure. The solenoid is just doing this electronically.
If you look at the diagram, the intake line connected to the solenoid would be under pressure. The intake manifold line would be under vacuum (if the throttle is suddenly closed). The solenoid is just the ECU determining when this happens rather than just physics. I didn't bypass the Solenoid although the Solstice guys did. I just bypassed the tank (which they didn't have in the first place unless the later models do)

I noticed you have an HKS BOV and Hahn block off plate. Yours might already be bypassed. Can you take a pic of yours and post it up?
I don't really recommend bypassing the solenoid like the Solstice guys did. (The pic with the 'T' connection) As someone told me, "it might save your bacon if something goes wrong."

Alright... hahaha.. I'm diagram happy and I suck at it! Here's another. This shows what I think the solenoid is doing. I could be wrong but I don't know what else it would be doing. It's just switching between positive and negative pressure to control the BPV.

I'm one line away from making a couple Swastikas!

I think you can get it from underneath. I did see a small bolt on the left side so I imagine there is one on either side. I have a few things going on tomorrow but if I get time I'll crawl under there and see if I can get it out. I'm pretty happy thus far with the performance of this mod. Even with the cut hose I don't think it would be a nightmare to reverse it. Just get some new hose.
If I can get some light and good views I'll take a few pics with the cell phone.

so thats it all we have to do is completly remove one going down to the tank and the other hose on the intake manifold run that to where we removed the other one???
