Question Electronic Boost Controller (dyno tuning questions)

Just got my car back from the tuner. Made 335whp/365trq on a mustang dynameter on 23 psi & 93 octane gas. I have a zzp fmic, upper & lower charge pipes, K&N cai, 3 bar map sensors, 3" catless dp, 3" catback exhaust, forged bpv, mpx oil catchcan, and a bps sts. The tuner, who is very reputable local tuner, said I would need a boost controller of some sort to push 25psi like I originally planned on running. I've never heard of this before. I thought once you replace the map sensors you should be fine boosting up to like 25-26psi before the turbo loses its efficiency. I don't want a boost controller if I don't need one...... So the question is Do I need a boost controller (manual or electronic) to push 25psi on the k04 or is the tuner just trying to give me a run around? Thanks guys!

first, u on stock turbo? didn't list it, that dyno is reading about 35hp to high, in no way are u making more than 300whp on that tune on 93. u need to be running like 28 -30 psi to get 335whp. or running and tuned for e47 or more. and no u don't need a boost controller, ur ecu controls ur boost, u just tell it how much, which he could have done. but to be accurate after 23 I believe u need the 3bar sensors. some tuners can trick the stock sensors like trifecta and run more. and stick to 23 - 24 psi, don't wanna go more with stock turbo. its been done but its risky. to much heat produced from turbo. also ur torque is pretty low for this car. usually with 300whp these cars are at close to 400 or over 400 wtq. also I hope ur tuner knows this car well, otherwise id abandon the tune u got.

no you do not need any type of aftermarket boost controller to run 25 psig on an LNF

The guy has no idea what he's talking about. You can easily go past 23psi on the stock turbo (if so desired) with the stock ebc, the boost will just naturally fall off past 5400rpm as most should know by now. Further more, a mbc on a k04 is a TERRIBLE idea. With such a small turbo you will see ridiculous boost spikes (without the ability and control of ramping in wg position) and top end boost drop will be even further pronounced.

ya that's about what I thought, tuner doesn't know the car, and the op should get rid of his tune and get tuned by someone who knows the car. to be on the safe side.

Its his first time working with a cobalt ss, and I do have 3 bar map sensors (already stated). His dyno is the most accurate mustang dynameter in new jersey and his numbers aren't off at all. On a dyno jet id pull much more... Thanks for the info on the boost controller. I think he just didnt want me to blow my clutch out.

im sure more torque would of been higher but my clutch was slipping bad. The was the highest whp pull of the day for my car. It consistantly made 320whp no problem. It peaked at 335whp. The tuner is very reputable but i am the first cobalt ss he has worked on that was turboed. People have pulled more power on 93 octane...

Ah well clutch slippage would do that. No one has made that much power on stock turbo on 23 psi tune unless meth injection is used. I'm on 22 psi and i doing about 300 whp I'm cold winter temps. Only guys iv seen pull that power are those running 28 psi.

Just out of curiosity, how exactly is his dyno coined as "the most accurate dyno in New Jersey"? What exactly is this claimed based on?

simply the fact that every person who comes to him to get tuned is upset with their numbers from previous dynos because they are normally 20-30whp less. However with 20 less whp their car seems to pull faster and trap lower e.t.s. I wouldn't say its the most accurate reading but its definitely a lower number dyno.

people make over 300whp with a intake, downpipe, and retune. Idk where you have been man. But look around the web, your car should be making much.

My car has damn near every basic bolt on possible too. I have a upgrade fmic, upgraded charge piping, dp, cat back, 3.3 bar sensors, and cai. Also every car will react different on a dyno. Not every car is the same. I know what my car makes regardless of whether or not you believe it. The guy is just afraid to push my car because he doesn't know its abilities and doesn't want to blow my clutch out.

Yea marc has been on 93 I think 24psi making 320whp 420wtq or close to that. All in the tune.

Sure, of course the tune makes all the difference in the world. The problem is somehow magically making 15-20whp more than most would at that boost level, yet is still a supposedly low reading dyno? You mean to say you'll make closer to 350whp on a dynojet? Not so sure about that one. Lol

I made 300whp and 320trq at 20 psi. Im sure I make closer to 315-320whp at 24 psi, but probably a butt load more torque.

Noone is making 350whp stock turbo pump gas on a dynojet lol But to put things into perspective, me and hockeyman dynoed on an old shitty dynojet where he made 289whp(lsj) and I made 356whp round 430wtq(lnf 25psi, fbo, cams, e85, stock clutch).

Few months later, hockeyman dynoed a nicer modern(haha) dynojet same mods I believe and was at 309whp lol So in theory if I would've dynoed a 2nd time I could've been around 376whp and i have no idea about tq. Plus I was on stock clutch and it would only take so much.

Japeatr also dynoed at that shitty dyno and hit 384whp I believe. So idk, we all felt as if our numbers were pretty low but who knows.

Better believe I'm going to be getting numbers when my build is complete though lol

Of course he will never hit 350whp stock turbo on 93. That was my point though. If he's making 335whp on a "low reading dyno", I think he'll have a bit of a rude awakening if he thinks he'll see that anywhere else. I think I need to make me a trip to jersey sometime soon to get on the most accurate dyno in the state.. lol

That was before weather correction factor it made 322whp after the factor was calculated and it only hit it once. Whether you guys believe me or not I dont care that wasnt the question or concern.

I didn't say they didn't, I was saying 335whp on a 23 psi tune on pump gas is bogus. No one has ever made that on that kinda tune. I don't care how good a tune it is, ur not gonna make that stock turbo on 93 octane on a 23 psi tune unless ur using meth or something
