Fastest GMS1 cobalt
So because I'm still in school and flat broke I'd thought I'd make up something interesting.
I wanted to get the fastest trap speed and hopefully ET of any gms1 tuned cobalt. I had a blast at the drag strip last summer and want to make an apperance again.
What makes this interesting:
As far as I know the stock tune doesn't take to mods very well, I don't have any money for mods, so this I think is on my side.
Last summer I trapped exactly 107mph @14.01, with god awful launches.
My plans:
Removal of spare
Removal of sub
Removal of trunk cardboard like deck/flooring
Removal of back seats entirely
Removal of passenger seat
Measured amount of gas for each run
I have a catless Downpipe
No washer fluid :p
All together I'm hoping that's a solid 100+ lbs.
What I need help with:
1st to 2nd launching:
I thought maybe having a mechanical boost gauge could help me complete this shift better, I basically always lose boost, because I'm spinning and shift too early. Having a real time heads up of what my turbo is doing I could see helping alot.
Suspension:
Does jamming sports equipment in the rear springs really help? Lol if so I guess it's worth a shot.
All in all I plan to try this with and without the Downpipe. To effectly have "completely stock" times to brag about if all goes well.
Ideas or suggestions are welcome... Thanks for any help.
I should mention I have some races planned as well.
2002 or 2003 Acura TL TYPE S
2008 Denali 6.2
Both automatics

I trapped 106 with the same things you have. But that was my first time at the track with a FWD and also lost boost on the 1-2 shifts. Next time I go, I wanna lose as much weight as possible and go from there. Goodluck!

I think reducing the unsprung weight here would help some ... Im not sure you would see much 60ft improvement.. but I bet the end result would be noticable.. but I fully agree about the drag radials... if you plan on reducing the overall weight of the car.. you're going to need them.. plus, you might consider lighter wheels too.. reduce that unsprung weight even alittle more... baseball gloves? lol.. I guess I can see the "idea" behind that... just not sure about the effectiveness... but I've never tried it... wouldnt that violate some saftey rules?

14 is pretty good but I believe you'll get it down a bit more. I'll be on GMS1 too for awile (warranty) so i'll be watching your advances. Please do,do it without a downpipe so it'll be more legit.

Definitely cant afford Drag radials at this time. Though when im working again its probably going to be my 1st purchase
Found my slips lol, please dont laugh:
60' 2.627
1/8th 9.49|
MPH 83.91
1/4 14.09
MPH 107.08
my best 60' of all my slips was 2.547 lolz.. though somehow my worst 60' was my highest trap
|
So basically if I had a magical 2.175 60ft launch, id have a solid 13.6 Run, perhaps even better...

No one will laugh at that time bro You are still really young and have a lot less driving experience then most other's. Heck I've seen people post on these forums coming up with high 14's low 15's with an SS/TC.
Oh and may I ask what you pay for insurance? My buddy lives up northern Ontario and it's rediculously cheap for him with that goverment insurance thing plus the no e-testing, so jealous of that system.

No offense op, but id say a driver mod is going to be your best investment in this situation. Practice your launching and 1-2 shifts before stripping the car. Jus my $.02 tho. Either way good luck!!
Oh and a buddy of mine ran his gms1, catless and zzp intake tube, and lowered tire pressures to a tune of 13.5
robk

As far as I know, I have the most points you can have (positive) for my driving record. In 7 years of having my licence I have only racked up one speeding ticket, and I don't believe that took points away, but it might have.. haven't cared to look because that was before I got my TC anyway.
I believe it costs me $127 a month to insure. There is no e-testing here either.

Oh sorry I didn't know you had been driving 7 years. I saw someone mention highschool and assumed too much $127 is godly bro. I've never had it under $200, $250 atm with 3 minor convictions (speeding 14km over no points $52.50 fine) 2 of em should be coming off within the next year (god damn 3 year record ****) Worst thing was the once you turn 25 myth your insurance goes down, NOT.

The civic, Drop the clutch.. hooked up PERFECT each time. Probably did it.. ohh 500 times. 120HP was never enough to break anything or cause any problems..
Now redlining and dropping the clutch on my TC... eeekk. Maybe I should try it? Its still under warranty HAHAH

Wow, I went 14.2@102 bone stock... And that was on a worn out nt05 in 95* July heat on a poorly prepped track... 2.4x 60ft and 9.4@80 haha
Drag radials, throttle control and eating up your stock clutch will net you bottom 13s...
