Upgraded actuator; a necessity?

Is the upgraded actuator really necessary? I have the turbo out of the car right now and I don't want to have to do an actuator swap when everything is installed, looks like a PITA to remove once in the car. I believe my stock actuator is just fine.

Yes the stock actuator will open under boost I could hold 22psi without the actuator 30 with at redline

Ok then! Actuator it is. Since I can't get a hold of one before my install, I can pop this on afterwards yes? I can see some of the bolts being a PITA to access while the turbo is on the manifold. KMO43, did you swap actuators with the turbo on the car and if so, was it easy?

KMO43, how come you're selling them? just curious.

Page 60 and still no one is willing to post a HPTuner log of what the data looks like? screenshot?
Page 60 and we still don't have an answer of how much air this turbo flows at x pressure?

Anyone willing to share this data?

Yep, page 60 doesn't have any of that stuff. It's in the previous ones.

My turbo blew because my hahn intercooler split so I bought the k04r until ZZP came out with the 7163. I always planned on buying the 7163

Either go back and read the pages or stop being so cheap and buy a k04r it's a great deal.

For sure if you have a stock k04 the r or the + is a bump. I was really hoping that the r which is 3mm bigger than the +, which is 3mm bigger than a stock k04 would be proven to flow more. I have seen the + in cooler temps get as high as 39.3, I have the log. Normally in hotter weather it's 37.6-38.3 at about 23 psi at say 6,400. My hope was that the r would be another 3 higher due to the bigger wheel but that hasn't been shown. kmo is also at high altitude and that probably plays into it. Would be nice to see some numbers at close to sea level but I guess no one has hpt. If there is anyone who has other results, please let us know. I have been happy with the + and 09cobaltss1 is tweaking my e47 tune now. That said, if I could find out the r flows 41-42 I would swap to it over the winter.
Haven't seen enough proof on a good running car to sell me yet.

Ya I hit 39lbs / min and at my altitude without E is really good I know I'd be in the 40s at lower altitude for sure. Nova I'd just buy the actuator it will help you out with your topend a lot that's where I got all my extra flow from

IF you are wanting a 400+hp car just get a 7163 or bigger turbo. I want the k04r for this year just to play with it till I can get a built tranny for the 7163. Fking tires and brakes set me back this month😑 or the k04r would be mine lol

I will have my K04r install done today or tomorrow. No I don't have HPTuners, BUT I do have an OBDII/CAN reader that shows MAF lb/m and I will WOT the car and fill you guys in on what I see. I have the stock actuator so I won't be hitting 30PSI like KM043 but I'll hit a # and post it.

My reasoning for getting this instead of other turbos is simple. I scooped one for $600 shipped new which is as much as ZZP's new regular K04 on their site, so it's an upgrade for the same $$ spent; It's cheaper by almost $1000 vs ZFR and other options; It was new, I am not putting a used turbo on my car, too hard to tell its condition until it is sitting in your lap; My stocker burnt out and this 'Balt is my DD, I was in need of a turbo ASAP.

It's better than the K04+ and cheaper, that's its niche. I think the thread has evolved past its name at this point.

Thanks kmo43 I just might do that. Mine on e47 even with lower boost than yours still pulls a ton harder than my stock one. I revved it out to almost 7k on the last datalog and it was still chewing up road.

So cheap that you had to hurry and buy a used one, huh?

Found out that my Dad's car has a boost leak at the intercooler couplers. New couplers from ZZP on the way. Car is already showing a huge difference in power from the midrange timing changes. Can't wait to share additional results
