i think my zfr is done

Well I think I blew my zfr. car runs fine, turbo boosts fine, but under boost, and only under boost I get clouds of blue and white smoke. it doesn't actually happen when I'm going that I can notice, but when I come to a stop after iv been boostin, tons of blue and white smoke. which after a little light driving goes away. I did compression test just to make sure my motor was ok, little over 150 on all cylinders. so damn, I think I need a new one.

my engine smoked a ton and i originally thought it was the turbo, once i swapped the engine, it stopped happening. It could be your valve stem seals. How many miles are on your engine?

Like 70k kms. Why would it only smoke after I go into boost though and no other times? Is there a way of checking if it's the seals without changing head and what not

I guess if it's the seals on the valves, they should be covered in oil no? I'll have to take intake off and check them

Well the high pressure could be expanding the seals and dropping oil into the cylinders and then sealing back up after everything calms down. Im not sure theres a way to test the valve seals.

well this sucks. so basically I have a 50/50 chance on guessing this right? lol

ok then I gotta figure out how to check if its the turbo or not. if I can find if it is then new turbo, if its ok, then I'm gonna put on a new head. possibly ported or at least upgraded cames and springs

from what I'm reading it should smoke on cold start as well if its the valve seals.

mine wouldnt do it consistently, it would do it randomly if you sat and idled for a while. does zzp offer a warranty on the zfr?

only a year I think. no mine doesn't do it at all unless after boost. but I will check the next few days to make sure. I just tried a cold start and nothing.

Tom the zfr isn't technically rebuildable but I believe they offer a new center section called a super core (or something like that) for $1200 that replaces the center section of the turbo, which is what you would need.if it only lasted like 6,000 miles that's horrible. Would a stuck pcv valve cause the smoke potentially?

Well I got one coming so I will find out. I checked today, doesn't smoke at all on cold start when it was sitting over night

Stuck pcv would explain my abnormally high trims I'm suddenly having at idle

You may have been burning it for a while until the seals got worse.

You are going to buy another one after this one lasted such a short time?!

Ya, **** happens. I'll be nicer to the new one lol. And I'm sure the surge I had on previous tune didn't help things. I have been super hard on the turbo for the last 2 years. But this is the last one, if new one goes as quick. I'm buying. Cruse auto and taking it easy lol

Fail rates are too high for the ZFR and EFR turbos for my liking. Couple that with the non rebuildable BS and it's not worth it.

It's hard to beat the spool time if you have a built trans and good tires. Shame they don't seem last long.
