Intake, BPV, and Tune Questions

Hi guys. I'm HP Tuned on 21 PSI and the only mods to the car are a ZZP Catless DP and ZZP upper charge pipe. I'd like to get a K&N SRI and a Forge Vented BPV. From what I've read, LNF's are tuning nightmares and both of these mods require tuning. I don't have a tuner near me. The tune was on the car when I bought it. Does anybody have any recommendations as to what I should do? Or if they have been running a similar setup with good results?

they arnt tuning nightmares, u just have to do things not half assed. with a vented bpv....or the actual name for it bov, u need to relocate ur maf to the lower charge pipe, so ull need a zzp pipe for that, and then u need to tune for the new maf location. but u don't need that, just get the forge bpv, not vented. its loud enough, trust me on this. everyone will hear it, especially with a intake. the k&n in take just needs fuel trims adjusted, I ran my car with aftermarket intake for a year with no tune and it ran good, fuel trims were off a bit though. if ur not wanting to relocate ur maf, stay away from the vented bpv or any other bov. it will not go well. just like in any other car that uses maf to meter the air coming into the engine.

You can buy a HP Tuners cable and get remote tuned via Email. After adding an intake on a tuned car it will throw off the trims and is possible to cause knock. I agree with Tom adding an intake alone will sound like you have a bov I would try that first. If you still dont think it's enough then buy the lower charge pipe that relocates your maf and you can do any BOV setup you want

But do you guys think it's bad to add an intake and not tune for it? I knew that it would throw the trims off I just don't want to be damaging the car or hurting performance by not being tuned for it.

All depends how far off they are. If a lot, then tune asap, if a few percent, probably don't have to rush it. Km043 knows better than me though, take his advice

Thanks Tom. It depends how aggressive your tune tune is. If it's is on the edge running the leaner trims will cause knock but if it's on a safer tune then it will have a timing buffer to allow the computer to adjust without having any knock

Well, my AFR cruising is around 14.6-14.7 and on WOT its 12.8. If that means anything. My buddy has got one around me so I'll just throw his on and see what happens for a while.

Right, that's what I thought. I run 91 Premium. HP Tuned on 21 PSI. My buddy has a K&N SRI so I'll put his intake on my car and see what happens in regards to AFR/trims.

What do you use to watch the afr and trims? Can you watch for knock?

Love your car by the way, KMO43. I love white! I also enjoy Calgary. One of my favorite Canadian cities. I'm heading out to Banff this summer in the Sedan.

Ok good cause our car runs off of the wideband ao it will adjust to the preset air fuel ratio but with the trims off it sometimes can't react fast enough resulting in knock
