KY Clutch Good/Bad?

I'm in need of a new clutch and wondering how the KY Clutch for the 09 LNF's are? Most info I could find was about 2-3 years old. Just looking for a good clutch to hold up on my 09 HHR SS after the factory one gave out at about 40k I installed a Stage3 Spec clutch and now sit at 120k and it's time for a new clutch. Thanks for any info

I hear of lots of people blowing the TOB with them, but I have no experience. They also blame it on resurfacing the flywheel but it seems like the common denominator is the KY clutch to me....

Ky clutch stage 3....

Pros: Holds torque good.

Cons: Shitty driveability, shitty engagement point, breaks trans,

Can i ask why you want to change from a spec? It lasted for 80k so why not get the same thing?

If you want cheap then go with the gmpp clutch, won't find a better one for the money.
The spec 3+ is the choice of one of the more knowledgable guys on here if you want to spend at least double the money. Stay away from 6 pucks if you want good drivability.

I have to disagree with holds all the power. Didn't hold up to zfr for me. After a good datalog run, always smelled burned clutch.

Southbend stage 4 or 4 plus is great, holds tons of power and is very drivable in day to day driving. Feels like stock to me. Ky stg3 felt like crap

LDK with Intake, DP, 3bar map sensors, upper IC pipe, stock turbo, 25PSI on full E holds every gear, just slips a tiny bit in 5th when you floor it under 2800rpm when you're on the freeway cruising.
this is the GMPP clutch in an LDK in a cobalt.

Got mine to slip too but gotta remember the clutch is rated for engine TQ, not wtq. But I would say it is still rated slightly on the high side.

I speak first hand in saying two things, one of which everyone knows now

DONT resurface the flywheel.

2nd--My neighbor is a builder/tuner, has his own saab tuning network (Mike D tuning out of MA if anyone knows him, really is a wizard, he has drives a 88 Saab with a 20g, also has a old school corvair with a b series Honda motor rear mounted), told me "damn no one in that community has figured out that puck clutches eat gm TOB's yet??"

So here's my advice, I have a 09 HHR SS, and im on my 3rd clutch as well. If your on stock turbo and 93 oct get a GMPP clutch, the drivability is just amazing compared with KY. After 4 months with KY clutch I would stall twice a day if tired/not paying attention (5:45am commute), it was easy to do.

If you plan on K04R or greater swap and or E, Id recommend Southbend Stage 4 (full face). That clutch seems to be well loved with the difference being 3x the cost. But if your going past stock turbo your more than likely not going to skimp on costs.

That being said I have a friend with a aggressive tune on e47.5 that has been running a GMPP clutch for some time with no issue.

hope that helps,

Bob

Idk if thats true about all gm tobs. But for some reason the f35 tobs like to fail a lot. Never heard of people having issues with the f23 ones, i have a 6 puck on mine going on a year now. I agree its easy to stall if youre not paying attention but its only happened to me like once.

Ya, I don't see how TOB failure is related to clutch disc.
