KY Clutch Good/Bad?
#26
The tob issues are about 85% due to installer error, 5% garbage clutches or wrong clutch specs, 5% resurfaced flywheels, 5% manufacturing defects.
I debunked the tob issue a long time ago. Ced wont even warrenty a "failed" tob anymore to my knowledge. Every failed tob I have ever come across I have found one of those issues except manufacturing defects. I only put that in there because I know a few people who have a clue had issues. The biggest issue of have found is people don't have a clue how to put a trans in

After maybe 2000 miles, I had a REAL shakedown with a EVO MR and a big turbo mazdaspeed 3, maxxed out every gear...
Anyways, got off the highway and just had a shitty mush clutch pedal, barely any resistance. I had NLS'd 3/4 and 4/5 just a minute ago perfectly. That was the start of the TOB over extending in my opinion, the feeling was FINE the next day, then happened a month later. Then another month, track day it happened again, then blew the TOB on a launch. I think it had 6000 miles on it if that.
TTR said because of resurfacing the flywheel it voided any warranty on TOB or clutch that they could assist with. They said call Kentucky Clutch, they said we don't make the TOB so that's not our issue *(said it much nicer, and I was at fault for resurfacing)

Well I told you all of this in your thread aways back before you even bought the KY clutch. Their clutches had issues even without resurfacing. With other tob issues I have seen its almost allllllllways something the installer did that damages the tob. For example sucking the trans in with bolts when it's not aligned, hitting the tob putting it into the car, not sealing it properly when they tighten it down, not torquing the bolts and so on and forth.
It is what it is you can learn from your mistakes. It's always best to have professionals do your work so you have some lean in case something happens. Even if you know what your doing if you tell a company you did it in your garage they think your clueless and don't wanna help.

Yup I should've avoided that clutch to begin with. Funny because I know 3-4 local guys that have them and love them, and have had them for years actually that's why I made the decision to get it.

KY stage 3 here for 30k miles no issues holding 26psi E47 tune on the ZFR, or the 26psi on 93 its on now. Its a 6 puck ceramic friction disk, it sucks because its very tricky to learn how to let out the pedal because its engagement point in near the top of pedal travel. But it'll hold most anything you can throw at it. I think its rated up to 475 ft-lbs. Cool fact about ceramic friction disks are that they wear the flywheel surface faster, will take very hard abuse, and grab better as they heat up. Slipping the **** out of them in traffic you may get some chatter on takeoff but mine doesn't do that, you'll pretty much have to learn how to drive your car from a stop all over again and look like an idiot until you get it down lol. Engagement is literally like 1 inch of pedal travel on mine almost near the top, in or out, its tricky to slip.
Just scuffed my stock flywheel with sandpaper, installed, broke in for like 600 miles in stop and go traffic, then it was good to go.

When I need a clutch, im going southbend stage 4 full faced. I wont deal with puck clutches. Everyone I know personally do not enjoy puck clutches for daily driving. Sure its cheaper to afford but I think something you use all the time when driving is worth the cost of full faced clutch.

We have been in testing for nearly 6 months on a new setup by KY Performance clutch. It will be called a stage 3+ which will be a full face disc setup, using a proprietary disc material. Should also only be around $50 more than the standard stage 3. New info to come soon.
