May have solved 100% E85 on LNF puzzle
#528
Raining today and I have to work 11a - 11p so I don't expect to be able to test much.

Damn, if my nearest E station wasn't across the damn city, I'd totally want this. It would just suck having to go that far out of my way everytime I was low on gas. Maybe I should get 2 tunes; ballsy, and *****-to-the-walls

New Jugs and the fuel will never be in there more than a couple weeks. I need them for the first fill up and back up when I go to the track which is 40 or 80 miles away depending on which one I go to. I dont want to be looking for E85 stations when Im out of town.

I don't have time at the moment to read all the post. Could someone help summarize what is needed to be done for the TC E85?
I know I will need a tune, but do I have to change any lines, fittings, regulator, or filters?
Or maybe any other things need changed?

With the stock turbo, I think you'll find that a 2:1 Emix will work the best.
Straight E85 will cause both fuel pumps to work much harder, causing more wear,
harder starting in cooler temps, more cylinder 'wash' down, more trips to the 'pump' as you're going to use more fuel, & NO GAIN in power with straight E85.
Even Vince states that going from a 1:1 Emix to straight E85 might get you 5hp.
Go to Walmart & buy a $1.97 rain gauge, to check for Ethanol mixture.

Acu-Rite Rain Gauge 5" Capacity New! Great Price! US - eBay (item 250792977745 end time Apr-21-11 15:27:21 PDT)
I tested Sheetz E85 + 3:1, 2:1, & 1:1 mixes with Sheetz E10 yesterday.
E85 = 81.33
3:1 = 64.66
2:1 = 57.22
1:1 = 44.66
Put 6cm of water in the rain gauge for each test.
Than put 6cm of whatever "E" your testing E85 , 3:1 , 2:1 , or 1:1
Rain gauge reading, {with Sheetz E85 & Emixes yesterday}, after shaking & waiting a few minutes for it to settle.
11cm = Straight Sheetz E85 = E 81.33
10cm = 3:1 E85/E10 mix = E 64.66
9.4cm = 2:1 E85/E10 mix = E 57.22
8.8CM = 1:1 E85/E10 mix = E 44.66
E85 is never really a true E85 as stated on the pump.
E10 is never really E10, all pumps state, may contain up to 10% Ethanol
That's why you should test your stations E85 when you tank up with your Emix.
Just splash a cup of E85 into an empty 1 gallon gas can when you tank up, then test at home if you need to.
If your LTFT didn't change with your new tank of Emix, no need to test, {might take a day for the mix to 'blend' in your tank}.
No need to check the E10 as it is mostly the same around E6-8, & a couple of % here doesn't matter.
Hay if you want to check what Emix is in your tank right now.

Buy a 'tire-gut' removal tool, {like in the above link}, & remove the fuel 'gut' under the black-cap on your fuel line on the engine. Don't forget to relieve the fuel pressure 1st. Run a 5 foot, 3/8" fuel hose to a completely empty 'bone dry'1 gallon gas can lying on the ground. Turn your key to run & you'll hear the fuel pump run for a couple of seconds. Do this 4 times in a row & you'll have a 'cup' of gas in your gas can.
When storing any gas, forget the Sta-bil , Star-Tron stuff.
Just a tiny amount of Coleman 'white-gas' wil do the trick.
If you look at their MSDS sheets, 95% of their stuff in that 'little bottle' is just plain old 'white-gas'.
The 'white-gas' is just putting a 'sheen' on the surface to keep moisture out.
Also when running any Emix, add 1oz of 'white-gas' to a full tank ,for lubrication, as Ethanol is 'dry', & you always need a little lube...

E 85 seems to be working the best for my car over the 50/50 mix. Its 60-100 time is almost as fast as my fully folted coupe on the dual layer tune and the 50/50 mix.
No special 'tune'{changing injector timing}, is needed, a 'normal' HPtuner/Trifecta ' tune', for an Ethanol mixture,{1:1 or 2:1}, is all that is needed.

70+70+10=150/3 and its still E50 or 1:1
What I do not like about mixing is the chance of the fuel mixture being off. If I use the same gas station with the same gas, my STFT/LTFT's stay consistant.
