This may be a silly question because I'm not sure how "exact" a 50/50 blend would need to be...but, to the guys running any kind of mix....how are you doing your measuring/mixing? Via the dash gas guage? I'm considering running the mix but I'm just curious about that bit.

That's what I like to hear! Looks like I'll be corn fed soon enough. The nearest E85 gas station just got slightly closer to where I'm moving in May

All you have to do is pump equal amounts of fuel if your on the 1:1 blend. When I was on it, it didnt really matter where I was as far as fuel level; quarter of a tank, half a tank, if you pump 2gal E then you pump 2gal 93. I usually waited til I had half a tank or less before pumping.
Now Im on the 2:1 blend which is a little more tricky cause I have to empty the tank more in order to be able to fill up and get the right mix in there. But the car absolutely LOVES it

Hello all... I've read every post in the 37 pages preceding this, my first post on CobaltSS.

I come from the SolsticeForum (same name there if it looks familiar to you) and have a Trifecta Tune currently. I've been interested in E85 as an option mainly for my autocrossing, and not necessarily for daily driving.

With that said, I'm curious as to how long after switching from 91 octane to E85 does it take for the Fuel tables to adjust, and is there any difference in power / overall performance from the first drop of E85 to the end of the tank or a second tank, etc.

Reason being is my thought has been to drive my Solstice GXP to an autocross event on 93 octane, drain the tank, fill with E85 from a gas can, race for the weekend, drain the E85, fill up with the 93 and head home. Since I travel in areas that E85 isn't always available, and I can't haul enough E85 for an entire trip and race... this is my plan.

Question is, will I get the performance using E85 in this manner, or would I need to drive around a bit on E85 before racing? If I need to drive a bit, how much? 1/4 tank, 1/2 tank?

It's obvious you all over here are more technical and much more into tuning than the Solstice / Sky crowd, and I'm glad I'm learning (slowly) from this thread. Thank you.

You would need to flash an E85 tune after draining the 93octane gas, then after draining the E85, you would need to re-flash with a normal gas tune.
There is no automatic fuel table adjustment.

Also, you would ideally have the E tune dialed in already that way when you flash it at the track you know for sure that the car will run like it should on E85. So, you would dain the tank, fill it with E then drive it around a bit on the 93 tune to use up the last bit of 93 thats in the lines and when you see your LTFT wander off you know that the E is now in the lines and being used. Stop, flash the E tune and your all set for the weekend of racing

Thanks, this is what I was looking for.

I'm not a educated tuner by any means (no HPTuners for me), but I do have a dealer kit from Vince, and certainly can flash back and forth between tunes.

Yes... I'll have a developed E85 tune for the car before I just go and try this, but there's no way for me (currently) to monitor LTFT (which is what I was speaking of in my first post) with Vince's stuff... at least not that I know of. So, I was looking for another way... 1/4 tank of use, etc. to gauge when that adjustment took place.

You all are in a world over my head... but I'll read everything any of you write and learn what I can, and ask questions when I don't understand. So far, I've been able to follow the discussion, except for the charts... I don't know how to read those at all.

Get a bluetooth OBDII reader from Amazon (I have the XR7) download torque for android, or rev for Iphone. You can now monitor and log everything.

Well, just figure that the lines will be full of E after about 10-15mins or so from driving around a bit. You dont REALLY have to monitor the LTFTs. Thats just a surefire way of knowing that the E is now being burnt. Im assuming you dont have an Interseptor guage? Because you can monitor fuel trims with that too, along with a lot of other engine paramaters.

Wow... what a great response from everyone. Wish my other car (which is a Cobalt, but a base model commuter car) was a SS, would have joined up here a long time ago.

I have no gauges on the car or ways to log at the current time. With the dealer box from Trifecta I would think I could just pick up some software and be good to go with data logging. Not sure what would work. I did look at the Elmscan 5 from ScanTool, since I don't have an Android / iOS device. I'm already using a laptop to load the tunes, and I'm not doing any tuning so I'd just need to occasional log to see what's going on. Just wish I could see the logged data from Trifecta's setup easily.

Didn't mean to take the thread off topic, but appreciate the responses. My GXP is currently awaiting some more work (kinked the hydraulic line when putting the tranny back in after a clutch upgrade) this weekend, and once it's back on the road I'll be ordering the E85 tune and working with Vince to get it going well.

i wait till im at/below 1/8th tank and add 5g of E85 and 5g of 93 and that puts me at about full.
I go to the station once a week and i fill up and i also have a 5 gallon can in my trunk because the e85 station is like 30-40 mins away in case i need to fill up during the week
