From: 6000ft on a Mountain in Colorado!
YouTube - 2009 Cobalt SS - Cold Start on E85.
Look at this guy.
Colorado is almost always below 50*F at night and in the winter below 0.
I don't think it's gonna work for me without a lot of babysitting

Do the LNFs really have that hard of a time starting on E? I live in frickin ND (coldest place ever ) and my car starts perfect in -30* temps on E. I wonder if they could unlock some cranking tables to help the issue.

I dont have to worry about that here in San fernando valley , it never goes under 30 F lol.
too bad theres only one place with e85 in LA. Fail.
thanks omni

Not sure this issue is necessarily associated with cold weather so much as it it with a cold engine. I realize they go hand and hand but I suspect this issue will not be resolved just because I go out to start my car in the morning and it is 80 relative to say 40.

Put a pressure gauge on the fuel fitting and make sure your check valve in the pump is holding. VERY common problem to have extended crank symptoms and no other symptoms when the pump won't hold pressure overnight. I know E85 is harder to start on cold, but make sure you don't have an actual problem and don't know it. Fuel pressure should be somewhere around 70psi after the 2 second prime, then hold above at least 50 or so for at least 5 minutes or so. If pressure continues to drop after the 2 second prime, you have a bad pump.
Also if you crank the motor and then try to immediately crank it again without waiting you won't get the 2 second prime. You have to wait a few seconds before cranking again. Listen for the fuel pump to run for 2 seconds when you first turn the key on also. If it's not you most likely have a bad fuel pump relay. An easy way to eliminate the relay is swap it with the horn relay, they're the same. If the car starts better but your horn quits, you got a bad relay.
There are many ways to effect cold starts in the tune to compensate for E85 or Cat Warmup delete, etc. Your tuner should know how. (Not likely though. Sorry.)

just turn the key to on, let it prime, turn the key off and then let it prime one more time... then when you hear it turn the pump off, crank it. you should let the car prime one time before you start anyways honestly.

I believe you are correct that this issue can be somewhat resolved by the tuner and hope he is looking into this.

Well I went to Nelson Ledges yesterday. It was a blast except my clutch master cylinder went out about halfway through the day. AAA to the rescue. At first I thought it was the clutch but after checking my service manual it looks like the cylinder. It seems to be a common problem with 5 speed cobalts. This will give me a chance to put in my ZZP adjustable rod also. I had fun running and they even gave me a rain check for a half day. Got the car over 130 several times in the back straight. Didnt want to push it too much as I am a Noob at road racing. One thing I did notice is you need to keep the fuel tank over 2/3rds full or you will pop a low pressure code when road racing. E 85 is unreal. There were a lot of nice WRXs, 350 & 370 Zs ,Vws, Integras . I blew by them and kept up with the regular Vettes.

Went to the drag strip last night and first run popped two cells. P0087 low fuel rail pressure. This is the first time I have popped this cell since converting to e85, I figured that I was up around 120 when it happened.
I know others have had the same issue, has Vince been able to resolve this with you?
The other code was p0497 which is evap purge.
I ended up still making 12 runs at the strip and sucked launching every time. spun bad in first and second.
Best 60ft time was 2.4. drag slicks next time i go.
Consistently trapped 109
should be able to trap 112 to 115.
P.S. The 08 350z who was looking at the back of my car 8 different times loved the blue flames from the NLS from 3rd to 4th.
