A must read for all LNF tuners

http://delphi.com/pdf/techpapers/2010-01-0619.pdf

Most of the engineering is beyond my comprehension. But from what I understood, it looks like a bump in compression along with E50 should get the job done.

Haven't seen that much thermodynamics since college. Part way thought it. Good read.

I think we already found out E50 was the sweet spot on mine. I'll read this when I can.

I see they pulled the turbo and ran the tests as a naturally aspirated motor...... interesting.

What would be even sweeter is if they brought e85 around my place lol. The nearest one and the only one is 25 miles away.

You want E envy? Do a search of E available in Houston
I really want to make the move to it but I think I need a clutch first before I go for more power.

50 percent e85 and 50 percent 91. My friend Nick is already running this blend out here in AZ.

good read thus far. dont really see any new/radical theories from whats known already.

the bit on fuel identity and a variable stratigy to go with is vary cool tho. way more then the general multipliers that go with fuel comp today.

Wayne Moore also has a great bit on fuel spray characterization

I found it interesting how they took the practices that LNF tuners use everyday on the street and tested them in a "controlled" environment.

They varied the valve timing.

They tried different ethanol blends.

They changed compression.

Yes, 1:1 rocks. Glad to see some pretty damn good supporting evidence from Delphi/SAE

Thanks again IAB!!! Damn you...

Edit- Awesome, they even speak about the "charge cooling ability" that I was trying to explain to an LSJ owner...

I would drive 25 miles to get E-85. The closest station to me is 62 miles away on a toll road so expensive as heck for me to go and 125 miles out of the way.

An attempt was made to operate a fourth piston,
with a resultant CR of 13.66, but reliable ignition could not
be achieved.
gee I wonder why? lol.

Meh I have seen CRs that high used on alcohol based fuels before. Not on a street application though.

They varied the types of "valves" used in the head...and added a port fuel injector.

Look at the whole article.

higher comp is harder to ignite, ethanol is also harder to ignite the two coupled together need an upgraded ignition system..
I am betting if the ignition was upgraded their #'s would be higher..
