replacing clutch disk

replacing clutch disk

so while my cars apart and the clutch is sitting there I was thinking, why not put in a new flywheel and clutch disk? mine has seen some abuse but still has a decent amount of material left, but new will last longer. question is, do u resurface the pressure plate or just leave it?

If it was me, I would personally replace all of it while I was there. New everything would most likely last you the longest/be the most reliable. Just my .02

NEVER resurface the LNF/LSJ flywheel. You WILL be taking it back apart in a few months. Always get a new Flywheel along with Flywheel bolts.....

Get the GMPP LSJ clutch unless you're big turbo then get something better..

But avoid the KYS3, it's a trans killer and the engagement sucks.

What clutch are you running tom? You will be making more power so it's probably not a bad idea. Unless you are building/installing a better trans in the next couple of years. How many mile are on it?

I'm running southbend stage 4+ at the moment and will me making a lot of power. I don't wanna spend 700 usd on a new clutch if I don't have to. I love the south bend. It's really not that old but I like new things with new motor lol. Just wanna know if changing The disk alone will work for me or not

I'd contact Southbend about it, they would be able to tell you the spec for surfacing if it is a good idea or at least they would say no need to resurface the pressure plate

I would do what Eric said and give south bend a call as they are the pros. You have a good clutch with lower miles so I would probably lean more to leaving it in.
You can always replace it when you replace the trans from running the 7163....😬

Only an experienced machinest can not blow the tolerence and for the price of an oem one i wouldnt bother. They are cheap.

I agree he should be nicer, but he is right, I didn't ask about the flywheel because I said I was getting a new one. I asked about the pressure plate surface , so the posts about the flywheel help me nothing. If people would read posts right they would not answer with information I already know and don't need. That was his point.

So I looked at the pressure plate surface and it is very little wear. Almost new. So I'm gonna just leave it and probably get a new disk and flywheel

Talked to southbend , the recommend everything he was the user pressure plate and friction plate will have issues wearing properly when friction plate is new. So I'll just keep my clutch how it is, if I remember what side goes where, or I'll just get a New clutch period

Tom, I'd just get new stuff. resurfacing a pressure plate is a bad idea. You have it apart...dont do what I did and not spend the money only to have to take it out and do it 6 months later. trust me on this

Ya I'm gonna do that. I guess I'll sell my lightly used clutch for like half the price of anyone wants a cheap southbend stage 4+ should last a while yet
