Timing Chain Maintenance Requirements

I remember the LSJs have timing chain tensioners that tend to fail. Do the LNFs need their timing chains and tensioners replaced after a while? Mine has 127k kms at the moment.

Is there a how to guide available? Where's the best place to get a timing chain kit?

Cheers.

The timing chain issues were for early Ecotec engines. The tensioners are better. Not sure about the chain stretching.

This really shouldn't be something to worry about until you hit maybe 150k miles or so.

Not saying they won't fail but not very likely.

Not sure where to get OEM chain set, but always try to go with stock if possible.

We still see 2.2/.4 eco's coming in with stretched chains at the shop. The design was poor imo.
As a tech imo I suggest replacing all the timing components between 100-125k but definitely no more than 150k and keep a regular maintenance of 3-4k on good full syn oil and good quality filters (I recc https://www.amazon.com/FRAM-XG9018-U...rds=fram+ultra or https://www.amazon.com/Purolator-PSL...ords=purolator). I would do balance chain w guides and tensioners while im there too.

I just replaced my entire timing set at ~42K miles. I can make you a deal on everything that came off if you're interested

No thanks. This isn't an area where I want to install used parts.

When I was getting tuned, my tuner suspected some timing noise although I heard nothing. Checking in on here to get some more insight.

The 3rd tensioner design is hydraulic, so it shouldn't fail like the previous two designs where the spring softens.

My 09 ss had some chain chatter at start up. Turned out to be a broken guide because of a weak tensioner. I replaced it at 68k
