Zzp lnf pcm tune worth it?

So when I bought my balt 3 years ago it had a previous tune on it. I've always felt this tune was sort of off since I got my interceptor gauge. Stft are all over the place and ltft is usually around -10.1. My afr is at a constant 14.7 but after a wot pull when I let off the gas it reads around 30?? Dont know if thats good or not. When I installed my zzp intercooler and charge pipe I did a boost leak test and didnt find any. So that leaves me to think this tune is shot or from a no f***s given tuner. I honestly work so much that I dont have time to log and tune via email, so I was thinking of buying a spare pcm and having zzp throw a tune on. I know it will be canned but I think it would be safer for my car since my current numbers seem off.

Opinions on if this is or isn't a good idea are welcome.

I ran a ZZP canned tune on a separate ECM for about a year or so on stock turbo before getting properly tuned by Term2.
I never had any issues with the ZZP canned tune, made my car a LOT faster than on my GMS1. I road tracked my car quite heavily during this time and had no issues.
Having said that, what everyone is going to tell you is there's always a risk with a canned tune and a custom tune is miles and miles better. Truth. If you do go the ZZP route make sure you tell them what intake you're running so they can at least take that into account.

I have zzp can tune and it runs great. Haven't had any issues, plenty of power for me until I get more traction upgrades.

Forgot to mention my car is already hp tuned and I love the power. But I dont like the parameters showing on my interceptor. Its tuned at 22 psi. With the zzp tune I'll probably lose some of that power but I wonder if its enough to notice. At this point im more concerned with getting my fuel trims on point.

I wondered the same thing about the afr going to 30 after i let of the gas on 5th gear and its only on that gear. I thought i was the tune but then i got a stock pcm and i tried it and it did the same thing so i guess its normal

The fuel trims are pretty clearly off and need adjusting, however that's pretty well to be expected from any canned tune. As far as the AFR's going full lean on decal, that is 100% normal. All modern vehicles go into a state called Decel Fuel Cut Off when decelerating in certain conditions. This is partly to save on fuel, and also prevent any nasty back firing from an unnecessary fueling while on a decal. It's completely normal and should not be any cause for concern.

Well the previous tune could of been "custom" but actually a tune someone stole from someone else (happens more frequently then you would believe) therefore acting more like a canned tune. Or it was tuned for a different intake

im running zzp canned tune which is normally against my religion but.... but I bought the torque 2 app and logged it 0 knock through the pull stock timing map up top 13.0 at wot runs alot better than stock this is on 22psi tune. some day ill have 09cobalt retune it im sure theres room for improvement but my butt dyno says my car is making 300ish wheel with zzp silicone intake turboxs cat-less dp. has anyone ever open up one of there tunes ? In addition my car is sitting at 110k and the car was bone stock until about 105k I wanted something Conservative with my stock clutch and 22psi seemed to be the magic number

My car also had a tune on it when i bought it, not knowing what it was or who tuned it, I immediately ditched it for the zzp canned tune I had put on a separate PCM just for peace of mind.

I now have a bigger turbo to put on and purchased HPT so come spring time I'm expecting some bigger gains

Still recommend the zzp canned tuned to anyone not ready to drop the $ on HPT/a tuner. Even with just their canned tune I still beat probably 85% of the people that are looking to race me. Can still light the tires up in 2nd.

Thanks sr tech. Think I'll do that. If I buy a used pcm do I have to do some kind of relearn. Clutch or security?

My tc was stock when I bought it and didn't want to buy hptuners so I bought zzp lnf pcm and it does make a huge difference. I know it's not the same gains as hptuners but it's a quarter of the price. I had to do a security relearn 3 times. It's listed in how to do it on zzp website.

Buy the PCM from ZZP with their canned tune already on it. There is a security relearn as aebooth mentioned and that is all you need. Oh, don't forget to bury the clutch when starting after install

Yes with any aftermarket tune you have to push the clutch all the way down or the car won't start.

I want to keep my stock pcm. How good are the used ones they sell? Or should I just buy a brand new one with the tune on it.

When it comes to important items go brand new and top quality.

I agree. Doubt I'll ever buy a used item for my car after the issues with my interceptor

I'd agree on buying new with most other parts. Most of the PCM cores that ZZP has are trade-ins so chances are you'll get a used one. Mine was used, it was actually an 09 when my car's a '10. To this day my car thinks it's an 09 because of that
My point is that I'm still running on that used PCM 4 years later and it's fine. I actually sold my own PCM since I have HPT and am out of warranty anyways.

So should I buy a pcm from a member and then send it in for a tune? Because either way it's still used

I decided to get the PCM with the tune on it from them and then just eat the core charge and not send my original one back. I think it was like $300 total shipped doing that.

But I wanted to keep my original one to have a stock tune if I ever needed it. Being as you have a unknown tune on your current PCM you may chose to just send yours back as the core to get some money back

So I just noticed on zzp's website they dont list the dejon sri as an intake when ordering the pcm. Does it matter which one I check off?

I would think i does matter if it didnt then why make a list?. You should email them or call them to see if can tune it for that intake. If not someone that knows how to tune should know the answer lol

Just include it with your mods list in the comments box when checking out. Different intakes will flow the air differently across the MAF. I'm sure they can tune for it
