[Work In Progress] Can I delete the rear 02 sensor in the downpipe? URGENT, thanks!

Hi,
I installed an aftermarket downpipe and the 02 sensor cable is too short. I'm reading now that I don't even need a rear 02 sensor, it's there for emissions only and removing it won't affect the engine performance.

IS THIS TRUE?

I have a 2006, so I believe I'll just get a CEL which I can confirm (before driving) is a rear 02 sensor (I have a scanner). Is this what everyone's doing? Just rolling around with a CEL all the time? I can live with that, just wondering.

Thanks very much!

Yup, it's not needed. You'll just have a CEL for the missing O2 sensor. I'm running a pipe w/o a rear bung at all with no issues.

Awesome, did you plug the female end of the 02 sensor (where it plugs in to the car) with electrical tape or something to keep water out?

I would. Otherwise you'd have one heck of an exhaust leak. I'd find just a plug to put in it. I woulndn't use electrical tape. Exhaust is way too hot for that. May as well do it right with a legit plug.

Oops, I meant where the electrical end plugs in, not the sensor. I have a plug for that.

I would. Coat the plug with di-electric grease and put it in. This way of you ever go back to stock, it won't be all corroded from hanging out in the open.
