Why did you stop the dyno pull at only 6200 RPM? It looks like she could have made some more power?

not sure why he did that...hesaid the knock retard was about 1.4 when he let off. I am sure it'll go higher. I was really looking for the torque numbers actually. They increased so I am happy...

Do the stationary dynos give you the best HP numbers? The car's not benefiting from all the air flowing to the intercooler is it? I just wonder because I've run 233 HP with my G-tech stock. Granted it has more margin for error especially since its not in as controlled an environment as a Dyno that's inside a garage. I recently installed a K&N Typhoon and will do some post mod runs once the weather out here drys out.

Some more FYI for you guys, "typical" mods to the cobaltss will NOT gain you as much power as a similar mod on another car. This engine is very good from the factory, to improve upon it will take more tahn what you normally would do to increase power. SO, an 8hp here, 3HP there, eventually will add up to a fast car! Don't expect a 20hp gain for 200-300 dollars, EXCEPT nitrous

Nice testing by the way, very informative!

You also have to take into consideration the HP gains as a percentage of what's there to begin with. When I had a 5.3 liter V-8 the base HP was about 285HP after adding intake I saw a gain close to 300, 15 HP gain, that was a little over a 5% gain in HP. A 205 LSJ (yes we all know its under-rated) with an 8 hp increase, that's about a 4% gain. So these numbers aren't very far off. Any increase in HP of 10 or more from just an intake is about par. Besides you also have to remember, a 10 HP gain on a light car is better than a 15 HP gain on a car that's twice the size.

Totally agree!, alittle here alittle there. 12 -13 hp over baseline isn't so bad with bolt ons for our cars. On the last dyno, if the car was pulled to redline you would of been at 235hp. That is a large improvment, 22-23hp over base.

For anybody not impressed with that really needs to go back and compare the TQ curve between stock and the last dyno with all the mods . Most noteably , check out how fat it got between 3200-5500 . Peak figures are SO many times decieving , so many people cheat themselves by just paying attention to the peak gain .

I bet DOC feels all that TQ in the low RPM's driving around town .

TXRLU - When you dyno a car , their is a LARGE fan blowing on the front of the car to mimmick the air you get while driving the car .

oh yea, I feel the torque...and yea, the fan is huge, almost as tall as the car with the hood open.
Funny thing, this was a 'mustang' dyno day. I snuck in and I actually had better numbers than a few of them. Although, they did a tune, diablo sport hand held, and they guy got 40hp/tq....I cried....there was a cobra that made 480hp and 550tq....mean, very mean...

.....too bad you couldnt of had a stg1 pcm tune in there too . GM claims 31 hp on stock engine , with the mods like you have I bet youd match or surpass that 40 hp gain the Mustang got

The 03-04 Cobras are just sex on wheels period , before I bought my shell of 94 Z28 ....I thought long and hard about turning to the dark side . I just couldnt bring myself to do it

very true....the owners are more than willing to work with me....they want to tweak my a/f because I usually run rich (all but the beginning) and they know more power is there as it is.

so i gather from this you are happy with the injen CAI and would recommend it?

im short on cash for the time being and am only looking to upgrade the intake. from what i have seen, the K&N and others do not give the same hp/torque gains, correct?

and nice numbers, certainly inspiring. since i am relatively new here, do you possibly have a link to exhaust sound clips? the performance is one thing, but the db's and throatiness certainly have an appeal aswell.
thx

New to the board, just bought my 06 SS/SC. The way I see it is all these small improvment are needed to make your car ready for more boost.

It shows that the stock setups are pretty good. On a modified car these parts will help a lot more as the stock stuff passes its limits.

Awesome! thanks for keeping us informed on your upgrades with actual dyno sheets, I think I'm going to do the same mods while I wait for the stage kits. Thanks.

Yea, I really like the Injen. I'd buy a black one if I had to do it again though. K&N has higher numbers according to some members. I think you could see up to 12hp from any intake.
As far as exhaust sound clips, check out the 'official exhaust thread' in the 2.0 section. The first post has them all in one place.

How much do you think could be released with correct a/f ratio......Why don't you add some of those stickers, then you'll be at about 280whp.

I have been testing and fooling around with this CAI thing. It seems after you put a high flow CAI on my car the dirst inside my oil increased. This must be true then. Is it worth it to spend big bucks for a few small horses and let dirt get into your engine? My idea of a perfect set up would be for my Cobalt to run strong, clean and fast. Is there a solution for this....?

So im not sure if i understand this completely but if i buy a Injen CAI. this will let more dirt into my motor? I didnt think injen was that retarded if this is true. because i had a Injen CAI on my 2001 Cav z24 and it was great i loved it

Well, I am happy. I got 216.5 on the first pull and 215.9 on the second. Both were 4th gear pulls.
On another note, he did an 05 a few days ago and he got 197.4 as a best pull.

Looking at you dyno graph, I would say your car is going rich at around 2800rpm which is why you have that dip. With a proper tune you can probably pick up another 10-15HP.
You'll have to look closely at the date on the pic and the dyno. The date was almost a year ago, prior to any type of tuning available. The 216.5 was also a stock run. Since then, I've picked up much more than 10hp . I've also upgraded to 60# injectors, a 2.7 and a full exhaust (ZZP header, ZZP 3" downpipe with hi-flow cat, and GMPP touring exhaust).
I'm going back next week to do a few more tweaks and see where its running. With 20's I had 248hp and 240ft/lbs. The IAT2's were high as well. I tuned it for 5 hours on the dyno too.
