Do it then. Maven gave you a list with everything you will need. Maybe not everything but most everything. That along with custom fabrication will get you what you want. Let us know how it turns out and how much it costs when everything is done.

lets be real if anybody in their right mind was gonna build something to be fast i think we all know we should stick to building mustangs and camaros not cobalts and malibus...i think he is going for a 300 goal and unique status not so much a drag car or a track car..we all know that rwd is the way to build a car..

Hey Cole, I've been lurking this forum for forever and a day, but after talking to you breifly about this swap, and seeing that you posted on here, I decided to make an account.
Like I said the other day, your best bet for now is going to be to keep the 2.4 and put the blower setup from the cobalt on it. This does away with all of the headache of swapping the ecu which may or may not function well with everying else on the car. While the motor that is already in your car may not be the strongest built motor in the world, it out to be able to handle enough power to keep you happy for a while.
As far as the transmission goes, it'd be awesome to have a 5-speed malibu, but you have to take into account not only the difficulty and expense of the swap, but the strength of the trans. It is the exact same transmission that A.J. has blown 5 times in the 35k miles on his car... I'd hate to have one in a 1000lb heavier car... While it may be far less exciting to stick with the 4-speed auto, like I mentioned Saturday 3000 or 3500 stall would really pep it up, and wouldn't leave you walking after a hard 2-3 shift.
My thoughts on what you should do:
Swap the LSJ blower setup onto your LE5
60lb injectors, upgrade the fuel pump (I don't wanna hear one more ricer around here tell me how fast their car was running out of fuel lol)
Run a stock or stage 2 pulley- not too much as you don't want to find the limits of the pistons/rods
Dual pass and a bigger heat exchanger- again, so you don't push the stock shortblock too hard (detonation from high iat2s kills pistons and rods)
Header and full exhaust- will add power and help lower iat2s
3500 Stall.
A GOOD TUNE- don't be like 99% of everybody else in the area that never gets a tune until the motor pops
*Drag Radials*
^^All of this together won't meet you goal of ~300hp- thats gonna take a build and a bigger blower/turbo- but it will be enough to flat blow the tires off and leave all the hondas/diesel trucks around here like they're standing still.
I know that you really want a unique car, but honestly, are there any other boosted malibus around here????????????............
Just take the rest of the cobalt and part it out, and put that money towards the build you'll need later on.

Swapping ECM/Engine is not a good idea to even try, as the LSJ ECM wont interact properly with the rest of the Malibu electronics. You could make the Maibu ECM run the LSJ with enough tuning but youd sacrifice ease of starting and fuel efficiency. not too mention youd have to turn off so many DTCs it would be silly, combine that with the fact that an LE5 will make more power than an LSJ with similar mods and you see the fail that is installing an LSJ.
You need to swap transmissions because thats the easiest way.......yes that big ass list I posted is the EASY way to do this. If you use the F35 from the Cobalt you can add the words "custom make" to virtually every single part in my list.
Is this possible? sure, pretty much everything is "possible" That doesnt mean it makes ANY sense to do it, or even that other options would yeild better results.
Take all the LSJ SC stuff, put it on the LE5, Sell the LSJ longblock to cover the cost of pistons and rods. Now youve got a motor that will make and handle more power than the LSJ.

just turbo the 2.4 thats in the malibu. its the same motor in the cobalt and g5 just detuned. also the internals are not forged like the 07s. you would prob make same if not more hp doing that then a lsj. and pulling a motor out of a car and hacking up all the wiring on a car thats 3 years old just seems stupid. if its Uniqueness you want trust me you got it. im pretty sure no one has put a turbo on a malibu they just get the v6.
