2.9 and happy

Mods, please move if this is posted in the wrong place.
I wasnt 100% sure.

So, I ordered a 2.9 pulley on Monday from [link removed] .
Recieved it in the mail on Friday. Beautiful pulley and man was I impressed with how light it was.
It was easily a half to a third as light as my GM stage II pulley.

It was made for my Stage II hub, so getting it on was no issue.
With the exception that I could'nt find my 15MM wrench and had to go buy a new one.

I got the belt off, relieving the tension with an adjustable, but was unable to get it back on using the same method.

I was frustrated, because in the last two years, this is the third 15MM wrench I have had to buy.
None of my other ones dissapear.

No matter, I got the wrench, and had the belt back on the new pully within 2 minutes.
Now I just have to figure out why I am getting squeek. I will double check the belt for alignment issues, but does anyone have any suggestions? I was thinking it might be because the new pully is so light?

Either way, I couldnt be more pleased with the results.

As I said, the pulley is beautiful! And my car pulls much harder now than with just the stg.II.
I dont know realistically how much of a gain I got, but the butt dyno says it was a good mod!

Thanks again to the guys at [link removed] , they were very helpful, with great customer service, fast shipping, and a fantastic finished product.

You will wonder how you ever managed without them!

Stage II alone is quite the jump, but if your going from Stock to Stage II with a 2.9, well, you wont stop smiling for at least a week!

You can typically get a good deal from Crate Engine Depot on the stage kits.
Thats where I got mine from.

Will you be installing your self?

The squeak you are hearing is the supercharger belt slipping. You need to get a bigger tensioner to apply more pressure to the belt.

Well that sucks.

How hard is it to replace the tensioner?

I didnt think the belt would slip with a 2.9 on the stage 2 hub? I havent heard anyone else say that their belt was slipping with a 2.9 ?

Yeah, that confuses me, because I did a search amd wasnt able to find many instances of it.
I can tell you that my hub is pressed on about 1 MM too far, but if that were the cause I would have thought it would make the same noise with the Stg. II pulley, and it never did.

Is it possible it could just be due to how light the pulley is?

I do still need to double check the alignment of the belt. I did this last night in the dark, well, in a dimly lit garage.

Hopefully its not the tensioner though. I mean, the 2.9 is smaller than my stg. II, but I didnt think that would matter.

The bolts holding the pulley in place are as tight as I can get them.

Just and update to this.

The belt noise went away! So thats a plus!

After driving for a few days with the 2.9, I am wondering how I ever survived without it.
IT feels like a whole new car!

I would recommend this to anyone who has GMPP Stage II!

Man...I've been debating getting this for too long now...maybe in the next couple of weeks I'll get one...=) How hard was the install? I'm just worried that I might strip my pulley bolts or damage the bolts in some way and have to use new ones. Don't want the guys at the dealership to know that the pulley is changed =)

This is exactly why I put my stage 2 pulley back on, I will eventually up the boost once I get a tune of some sort. For now I will invest in getting some cooling mods/traction mods to put the power to the ground.

I did a lot of searching and reading before making this purchase, and that is actually what sold me is that so many people were getting good readings with the 2.9.

Is that not the case?

I know the 2.8 was pushing people just over the limit.

What did I miss?

With that said, I DO plan on getting a tune done. I was going to wait for my exhaust first though.

Bump for clarification?

I searched again last night, and the concencus that I was able to find was that the 2.9 was safe.

Can anyone provide details to the contrary?

I can't provide details to the contrary, however keep in mind every car can have different results when datalogging and logging is the only way to find out. I've researched the 2.9 alot as well and the general consensus is its safe. I asked nate which one would be the best for safety of my engine and he said go with the 2.9 as well. I think you're good.

It will still most likely push your injectors to the static range just be safe. Also make sure when summer time comes to have some cooling mods because that 2.9" likes to make things a tad toasty.

Thanks all.

I dont really get "on" it all that much.

I get high in the RPMs getting on the highway, but other than that, my car dosent see much action.

Dont get me wrong, I love to feel her pull. But I tend not to abuse that power.

As mentioned, getting on the highway, and very occasionally, I will lay into her with a long stretch of highway in front of me.

So I am thinking I am safe.
and my temp. (at least according to the DIC) hasnt gotten above 181 since putting it on.
Which is right where I was at with the Stg. II pulley.

I will keep an eye out though.

I am definately interested in getting a custom tune. I am dreading searching for information on that. But I know absolutely nothing about it.
