I'm pretty sure it is. It has everything it would need to be street legal.

welcome to the site!
Id definately figure out exactly what pully/injectors you have at the moment, sounds like you may have stage 2 already, which would be a 3.06 pully, 42.5lb injectors, shorter belt, and a tune....
throw a 2.9 inch pully on there for a quick cheap safe boost in power. especially a nice low down torque increase.

I would look at a blower swap if you want bigger power.

I honestly think, even though a turbo might make bigger peak numbers....that an ariel atom would NOT be served best by going turbo.

why? because who the hell buys an ariel atom for straight line dragging?
that low down instant torque, and smoother power band, created by a blower,...would be much more beneficial for this lightweight rocket IMO.
just a bigger one....instead of the M62 heaton.

umm the atom doesn't have airbags... wouldn't it need that to be street legal?? or is it exempt? I thought they were street legal but that just seems weird

Haha, I just found my next car.

BTW, it is completely street legal. Airbags are not a recquisite to being street legal. Mercedes also has a version of the Atom..Not sure of the model, but is has an S2k engine and driveline. it's at a dealership that I do work for, and I just got my camera so next time I'm out there i'll snap a pic of it.

Thanks for all the replies. Yes it can be registered in many states as a kit car wich makes it excempt to the airbags and emissions stuff. However my local DMV told me I need bumpers and a windshield with wipers. I already have the bumpers I'm now working on the windshield.

check the USA dist/manufacturer site.

I think this is the way we will be going. I have also got news that Brammo will be sending out smaller pulleys and bigger injectors to solve the problem but they are still testing.

I don't get how they have so much drivetrain loss??? Something isn't right there. Also everyone saying that he shouldn't go turbo because of road racing, think about how much his car weighs he doesn't need a lot of low end torque.

In my state they want the wind shield. Many other states just register the cas as it comes from the factory. That includes California. The problem with the turbo setup is not just the low end torque is also the the loss of balance in the car when the turbo kicks in on a curve. This loss of balance is a lot more on this car due to its light weight.

i feel you can do a turbo..

a smaller ball bearing turbo will have virtually no lag and will definately outflow the m62, and of course be more reliable (esp if your road racing) with no parasitic loss ... somethin like the disco potato turbo

just my opinion.. and those atoms are SICKKKKK

We should race! I want to see what your license plates say

If I can even stay close enough for long enough for that

Nice car man.

There are quite a few guys on here who know their ecotec motors fairly well, I am sure you will get the answers you need.

"Kicks in on a curve??? What do you mean by that?"
Power delivery from a turbo is not as linear as on a SC. If you hit The gas a bit to much on a turn at the track with a SC you might be able to get away with. With a turbo you will have a lot less of chance to get away with it in a car as light as this one. heavier cars are a whole different thing.

"They register it for off road use only. Not street legal."??
If its registered with a tag it is for the street you don't need a registration for of road use. I still don't have mine registered but here is one of the registered ones.

rare yes...but for a hundred grand??

I think I would order one and stomach the wait and save myself a good 25+ grand.

Thats the problem with ebay...(not implying this auction) but in general...people will polish a turd and put it on ebay with a reserve of 10 grand since it is a rare special polished turd.
