beating on ur car vs. longevity v1.0
how much/often do you beat on your cobalt ss? leaving mods out of this conversation, i wanna know how much ppl beat on their cars, and how many/what types of problems people usually get...
lets define beating on it: flooring it
-not burnouts, slamming gears, and other dumb ****, i'm mainly talking about giddy-up and going
i've been chiller lately while driving, as i should always be but i would have to say i ram on her at least once a trip. i.e., i get up to the speed limit fast, or to pass a car, or just enjoy the s/c whine for a few seconds
then sometimes i race when the time is right, or pull her through high 3rd to mid 4th gear.
no problems yet, but i've had the car for about 9k and got her at 34k miles sooo... shes still pretty young, probly not legal yet (no pedo)

I don't have an SS but I do get on mine at least once a day, and always drove it pretty hard since day one. It has 65000 on the clock now and did not give me any problems, everything runs like it should.

I definately take advantage of every opportunity to pass someone! On my way to work I take a road that has no "posted" speed limit. The road also splits IL/WI so each side of the road is different jurisdiction and I never see cops there. I usually can get it up to 100 pretty easily. Usually it is normal driving up to like 50 then get it into 3rd gear and pull it up to 100 and off it.

Every time I drive it. Only used Mobil 1 5w30 and AC Delco oil filter since the factory fill, and is changed only when the oil life monitor says so. 70,000 miles

The LSJ was on Ward's 10 best list for a reason. Unless you have some ******* OUTRAGEOUS tune on there, there should be absolutely no issues getting up to 200,000 miles and beyond.

i paid for a car with forced induction, and i use it. freeway on ramps its down to 2nd and wide open. i drive 75km round trip for work, half freeway, half backroads, and i enjoy the boost. i dont drive it wide open all the time, i just may accelerate a little faster from a stop than most would. nothing broken from it, matinance stuff and stuff i broke myself, but nothing from driving it hard.
i think beating should be redefined. going full throttle is not beating on it, nor is shifting quickly. beating on it is spending all its life near or on the rev limiter, tires spinning all the time, keeping your foot in it when it wheel hops, and power shifting. if the motor couldnt take going up to redline in boost they wouldnt have put it into production. if it couldnt take it, they wouldnt have had a 5 year 60k mile powertrain warrenty.
the entire ecotec line are dam strong motors, the lsj will take a lot of abuse, let alone driving it "hard".

Mine sees 15+ lbs of boost daily unless theres water/snow on the road.
I have no problem spinning the tires, or getting on the brakes, or throwing it into a turn any day of the year. I drive it every single day.
I do maintain it very well, let it warm up fully and go through each gear before driving it hard, i dont sit on the rev limiter, i change the oil every 3k miles, and the spark plugs every oil change, ive changed tranny fluid twice, blower fluid twice, radiator flushed once.
bought it with 12 miles on it, its now about to turn 89k.
Only issue ive ever had was i snapped an axle and blew the clutch at the same time, dont ask me how as I was in a parking garage starting easily from a stop.
Other than that shes been great to me, no complaints, thats why i see her having a spot in my garage for a long time

a coupple years ago Acura had this nice little commerical for their RSX...
it had a guy who worked in an office who looked forward to the end of the day, crawling into his RSX, and banging gears...
(I looked on youtube, but couldn't find it)
That pretty much sums up the way I drive... err, enjoy every car I drive.
I've only wrecked an engine once from driving it aggressively ~ but it had signs it was going before hand...

I drive my car as it was ment to be driven, but I do not beat the living **** out of it. After a pull I let her cool down, and drive like an old lady. I usually only go WOT when logging or when the right on ramp to the highway is clear
They are fun cars, and can be very reliable when taken care of with proper maintenance.

I drove my car like a bat out of hell nearly everyday for the first 50000 miles, then I moved to where all my driving was city stuff lol, but I never had any problems out of my car. Other then the usual LNF stuff of course.
Hate on me for it all you want. I still dog the Trailblazer SS as well, what's the point of buying something performance made if your not gonna use it? Same with my bike, it see's it's 14k RPM's often. It's what they are built for.
As long as you keep up on the vehicle maintnence you can usually dog it all you want and be fine.
