Big bump=car shut down
was driving from jersey to maryland the other day. Was going like 50 mph when i hit a big bump from constrction. The pavement was raised like 4 inches where i hit it. Well since my car is lowered on h&r springs, it hit quite hard but my car went off. ANyone know why in earth my car would go off from hitting a big bump? Had to restart the car while rolling. Had no power steering or anything.

yea...that happened to me a few years back...there was a really big dip on the road and when i came out of the dip i got some air...when i landed i landed on the frame...not the tires..the frame hit first kinda lucky i didnt roll over...but yes my car suddenly shut off but it was still rolling....
its a safety feature...if too many g's are recorded at one time the ecu will shut your engine off....its like when you crash...lets say your doing 20mph and suddenly the ecu registers a complete stop...from 20 to 0mph...well obviously something made you stop in such an instant and the ecu will try and turn everything off that can affect you.
just be more careful next time.

A lot of times it's actually your knee hitting the key and turns it off haha. I actually had it happen once to me after reading a lot of threads over the year of it happening to other people. At first I was a little freaked out but then when I realized the key was in the off position I laughed pretty hard.
To the op - If your key was still in the on position it was probably a ground or something that cut the connection out for a split second.

^^ Its like some people forget that the ashpalt expands... so when they fill a hole, its flush.. but then it expands over it and makes it a bump...
idiots.

Hey check your fuse box, i hit a gap due to construction, and popped a fuse loose which turned off the car, and it jacked the flex pipe on my zzp downpipe which ended up falling off on my road trip.. no fun.
