Boost Gauge

Just wondering if the signal for the Stock SS boost gauge comes from the engine computer or directly from the map sensor

or beter yet could the signal from the SS S/C map sensor be used to run a stock SS bost gauge?

bummer Ive bin trying to figure out how to put the gauge in a 2.2 and i have all the wireing figured out but in order to continue i need to figure out the type of signal that the gauge requires, if the signal comes from the sensor then its voltagew based but if it comes from the Engine computer its most likley a frequency based signal the question then is it a square wave frequency like out MAF sensor or is it a wave frequency, I have the map sensor from the ss intake manifold coming, when i get that I will see if I can get the gauge to work with it if not then the signal comes from the computer

^ this. Definitely comes from the PCM and is calculated somehow. Unfortunately not a direct 0--5v off the MAP sensor.

I figured as much, but being the enginering major that I am im still guna try to figure it out, it most likley takes a frequency or analog signal not sure yet

If you figure it out, let me know! lol.

This is the reason SS S/C guys can't just swap over to the SS T/C gauge.

Their guts are identical, with the gauge face being the only difference. The reason one can read 20 and the other 30 is all in the signal being sent to it.

FYI I've tried using the GMS1 sensor from the SS T/C with the appropriate Linear/Offset values. This made the sensor function exactly like stock, but with a higher readable range. Didn't affect the gauge one bit though. Just a little extra info for you.

ok after some general tests it seams that the boost gauge only responds with short bursts of 12 volts which most likley means that the boost gauge requires a 12 volt square wave frequency, what I dont know it what frequency is required to show the proper mesurement on the gauge. I think it would need a voltage to frequency converter to take the voltage from the MAP sensor and convert it to a signal that will operate the boost gauge which is about $40 worth of electronics from mouser :P which means im just going to buy a new gauge from glow shift and chuck this POS out the window

Thanks everyone for their input!
