Broken Timing Chain

Just got the bad news froma local shop they believe car has broken timing chain. They said they did a compression test and there was one or two cylinders with no compression. I guess the question I have here is, Does anyone know of a good shop in Tucson to do the engine work I need or should I just buy a new short block and it installed? The car currently only has 46k for mileage.

Since this is posted in the LSJ section it's unlikely that he's got warranty left. Very slim possibility if an 07. A ZZP crate motor wouldn't be a bad option of you've got the money. If timing chain broke you are gonna need a new chain and tensioner, new valves (possibly a new head), and new pistons in the cylinder with no compression. And if you are gonna have to do engine work, might as well upgrade to all better internals anyways.

Yeah because nobody has ever gone from a broken motor to a built motor. If ever there was a time to buy a built motor, it would be now that something has to be done

have them pull the head and replace the bent valves and replacce the timing chain tensioner and chain and drive on the reason why you arent getting copression in 2 cylnders is dut to bent valves

He also could've dinged up the pistons in those two cylinders so they may need replacing also

unless he knocked holes in them which i highly doubt all that needs to be done is to smooth out the dings

How could you have compression on any cylinders with a broken timing chain?

Because some of the cylinders don't have open valves?

Odds are you have a timing jump issue, chains rarely break but the tensioners do fail pretty often on these cars by comparison. If it's off a couple of teeth, it will bend some valves but that will be about it.

Hey thanks for all the help guys had a mechanic come by and check the car out. Turns out to be a broken crankshaft!!!! He said when he was turning the motor over he was watching two of the pistons not moving at all in full rotation of the motor. So now is time for a new motor I honestly have around 2k to include shipping for either a new longblock or a junkyard engine. There are currently 2 or 3 engines on Ebay for around that price just asking for some opinions. Thanks in advance for your help.

Also, are the ION motors exactly the same for an 06? I found a good ION motor locally but it needs a new complete thermostat housing. Didnt know if these were interchangable or not.

Should be no difference at all. How did you break your crankshaft?

Balt I have no idea I just bought the car hadnt had it two weeks when this happened. I was driving home after work one day. The car started making a sound like a plastic bag is stuck in your cooling fan really quiet. Car began to slow down I pulled over and it died before I came to stop and wouldnt start again. No engine codes, no loud banging, nothing.
