building motor need advice
Ok here's the deal I did a leak down test and # 4 piston is at 120 compression and the other 3 are 170. So he thinks I might have messed up the head. He doesn't kno if there is any damage under the head. If there is damage to the head he's jus going to fix the problem, but if there's damage under the head (bottom half of motor) he's going to put all the upgraded parts in for 2k. My question is do u think there will b damage on the bottom half of the motor? Where can I buy head studs, head gasket, diamond piston, valve springs, valves, piston rings, sleeves, connecting rods? If its jus damage to my head he said about $1000 to fix it and if its bottom half about $2000 to fix plus cost of upgraded parts. What u guys think? _________________

well if he did a leak down test the test should be able to tell you wat u need to fix. because the air has to leak out somewhere. the air can only leak out 4 places.. the intake valve, the exhaust valve, the crankcrase, and the coolant. soo if its the bottom end ud hear air coming from the dip stick area or drain plug if u removed the oil, if its the intake valve itll come from the intake manifold , if exhaust valve then air will leak out the exhaust manifold and if the coolant then itll come out the radiator or the coolant resevoir.
but might as well build the motor since u got the money.. www.turbotechracing.com is the way to go for your "go fast" needs
well when he say "he" im assuming a mechanic

Funny...I brought it to a mechanice to do the test and find out what's wrong. I'm not changin any of these parts. I'm not going to charge myself 2k + parts to fix my car. The reason y I asked where to buy that stuff was because I looked on zzp and ottp but still couldn't find connecting rods and sleeves. So if anyone knows who has all of these parts in stock please let me kno

you wont need rods. Trust me... they will hold just fine...
Sleeves are in the making.. right now they dont "make them" for the lsj.. just the 2.2 engine...

The mech is going to start pullin the head in a day or 2 after he pulls the head if there is damage under the head were doing a full build of there's no damage under the head then he jus fixin it back to stock. Ill kno for sure prob by the weekend. So I can't reli wait to long cuz I don't have a car so ill do what I can with what I got. I think it did a compression test not reli sure.
U mean I won't need connectin rods? I heard those are usally the first to go? What kind of power can the stock connection rods hold?

If he is going to be streetable, then he won't need the rods. Having the kind of power that would require aftermarket rods would equal something not being a daily driver.

dont quote me on this but i think darton is good to 700+ (limits unknown)
and the bates have been tested to 1450hp at which time the block failed miserably... the sleeves are bullet proof literally.
