Buy new engine or build it?

well my engine is taking a **** on me....so i have to come to this conclusion!!

i owe just a little over 5k on this car....so i was thinking bout getting another loan to pay off the car and use the extra cash to build the engine or buy a brand new engine....

what u guys think??? my payments on the loan would be cheaper also

i wanna go the safer way too.....and i was thinking bout getting a new car but i just cant...i love the color of this car way to much...i get so many complements

A new lsj runs a little over 3k plus probably 500 for frieght. It all depends on what the problem is and your intentions for the car.

You should be able to get a used LSJ or LK9 (saab equivalent w/turbo) for about $1250 shipped with low miles.

Looking at around $2750+ for a used combo like that. Really depends on what is wrong with your motor. If if just needs a hone and some slugs, I would go that route.

well our engines our just like any other 4 banger for the most part.... I dont see how buying a new engine is gonna be a good thing to do ? unless your block has a hole in it or something (highly doubt it unless your at the track every weekend , and even then....)

Just rebuild it man , its cheaper and you'll learn all about your motor , be patient , barrow your girls car in the meantime or something (thats what i do) cuz pistons and rods and **** is a helluva lot cheaper. Thats why I got out of my cobalt , I hate making payments on it when I can just rebuild someones car they dont want , I bought a crx for 300 and now it has a freshly rebuilt d16 with forged rods pistons and a block guard and its running 15 psi and I have over 250 whp. and I put a total of 1100 in it , granted I got all this stuff on the cheap cheap from CL , even tho it was all new in the box (cept the motor lol ) I got a brand new car basically for 1100 , Its not pretty by any means but another 1200 and It will be of show quality( painting myself) I used to be mechanically dumbfounded but hondas taught me alot , and forreal the cobalt aint that much different so I vote for rebuilding , just my 2cts.

Gap is set to.... ?

Have you checked the coil packs to see if they have gone bad? Is there a certain color exhaust gases are coming out?

Gap at .030- .035 and that should help. You might have bad coil packs as well. MAF cleaning is always a plus when the car runs like doo doo. Black smoke means you are running rich sir.
